Sterling Solid Silver - ANTIQUE OCTAGONAL TABLE CANDLESTICK
In the Queen Anne style (1702 to 1714)
A full set of English hallmarks which show that it was made in Sheffield 1917
Marks applied by the Sheffield Assay Office:-
Crown - Sheffield Assay Office mark
Lion - Sterling silver guarantee
Lower case z - Date letter for Sheffield 1917
Maker`s mark - H,E Ld., for Hawksworth, Eyre & Co. Ltd., Rockingham St. Sheffield
A superb quality, heavy made candlestick, made in the Queen Anne style -
particularly notice the shape of the sconce when the capital is removed.
The octagonal underside was in poor condition, so my wife, Valerie, has replaced the green baize, and has made a perfect job of it.
As well as the hallmarks on the base, there are three marks on the capital -
maker`s mark, crown & lion.
