About the Item

This exquisite and rare Georg Jensen (1866-1935) tea set is exemplary of the Art Nouveau style gloriously celebrating natural elements, specifically the magnolia blossom. The flower bud was inspired by Japanese art, which uses the magnolia bud and toad element on the feet as symbols of luck. The surface is covered with delicate hammer marks – a distinct Georg Jensen style - which softens the reflected light to create the greyish shimmer he associated with moonlight. The complete seven-piece set consists of a teapot, strainer, sugar bowl, and creamer, a cover for both the teapot and sugar, bowl, and a rectangular tray. Hallmarks date the set between 1925 – 1932. Measurement of teapot with lid H=5.5 W=9.5 D=7.5 (508.94 grams) Holds 16 oz. Measurement of strainer H=1 in. W=3 in. D=5 in. (46.72 grams) Measurement of the sugar bowl with lid H=3.5 in. W=3.25 in.
