About the Item

Joe Colombo 'Topo' Articulating Floor Lamp for Stilnovo in White. Founded in 1946 in Milan, Stilnovo was one of the most innovative lighting companies in Italy during the Midcentury era, producing iconic pieces by such luminaries as Joe Colombo, Angelo Mangiarotti, Ettore Sottsass, Gaetano Scolari, Piero Castiglioni, Bruno Gatta and others. Stilnovo was relaunched in 2019 with a commitment to faithfully re-editioning its legendary designs with uncompromising attention to detail, materials and craftsmanship. The 'Topo' floor lamp, originally designed by Joe Columbo in 1970, has long been recognized as an iconic and timeless design. The reflector's shape mirrors that of a standard light bulb while sitting atop an adjustable arm. Reminiscent of the vents on a 1960's sports car, five slots were created atop the reflector to dissipate heat from original incandescent bulbs while preventing direct glare. A black handle permits the user to adjust the reflector to a variety of angles making this light ideal for any task, as does the jointed arm. A staple of Italian lighting design, this version is meticulously executed to Stilnovo's exacting standards in powder-coated metal. Price per item. Available to order in unlimited quantities in choice of green, white, black, red or chrome. Also available as a table lamp in a separate listing. This listing is for the Topo floor lamp in white. Lumina Daphine Terra LED Floor Lamp in Matt White by Tommaso Cimini
By Lumina, Tommaso Cimini
Located in Warsaw, PL
Lumina Daphine Terra LED table lamp in soft touch black by Tommaso Cimini Undisputed emblem of elegance and functionality, the Daphine represents the essence of Lumina. The idea behind the creation of the Daphine lamp is as simple as it is effective: a pivoting diffuser, an articulated arm in two segments and an electromechanical transformer on a cylindrical base between two metal caps. The Daphine first “saw the light” in a small workshop in Sedriano (Milan province) in 1975 thanks to the skilful hands of Tommaso Cimini, a mechanical engineering expert, and the machines he had retooled for the purpose. The Daphine springs from Tommaso Cimini’s design philosophy, “Lots of light, not much lamp”, which is still the essence of every product bearing the name of Lumina, the company he set up in 1980. 45 years on, the Daphine’s aesthetic and functionality are unchanged, which goes to show the validity of the original idea. Tried and tested throughout its long production history, this lamp lends itself to countless uses in public and private places, from reading desks in libraries to pianos, from jewellery display counters to top fashion brand shop windows. The Daphine undoubtedly deserves the status of a ‘lighting design icon...

Joe Colombo Coupè Floor Lamp in White Lacquered Metal by Oluce 1967 Italy
By Joe Colombo, Oluce
Located in Montecatini Terme, IT
Coupè floor lamp with a structure in white lacquered metal, designed by Joe Colombo and manufactured by Oluce in 1967, circa Italy. Measures: Height: 175 cm Width: 140 cm Lampshade diameter 40 cm Lamp base 30 x 32 cm Joe Colombo born Cesare Colombo, was an important Italian designer, architect and artist. Renowned for his embrace of modern technologies and for the potential he saw in modular furniture and designs, Colombo created a body of furnishings that spoke to the energy and excitement over the potential of the Space Age. Colombo was born and raised in Milan. Joe first in a first time decided to pursue an artistic career by enrolling in Milan’s Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera. But after a couple of years at the Accademia, he transferred to Politecnico di Milano, where he studied architecture and graduated in 1954. During his studies at the Accademia, he befriended artists Sergio Dangelo and Enrico Baj, who had been influential in the creation of the avant-garde Movimento Nucleare, a group whose aim was to transform the art of painting in response to the tensions of the modern nuclear age. Until 1958, Colombo worked mainly as an Abstract Expressionist painter and sculptor and thrived on the Movimiento Nucleare group’s energy and intensity, which fueled in his work a fascination with an almost futurist aesthetic. In 1959, Joe Colombo’s father died, and he decided to run the family electrical appliance business while experimenting with new manufacturing methods and materials. This new and unexpected experience influenced him to switch from painting to architecture and design, where his fascination with futuristic themes not only remained intact but found a new invigorating venue. In fact, one of his first design projects was a series of installation works made from television sets that were assembled in the form of shrines; the work was exhibited at the 1954 Triennale di Milano. Colombo decided to open his own design studio in Milan in 1962, entering the busiest phase of his career as he designed furniture, lighting, interiors, and glassware. Also in 1962, Joe and his brother Gianni designed for Oluce the Acrilica lamp...
