Lovely pair of Louis XVI style planters with three light arms. Each jardiniere, with their liners in form of a basket based on a three leafy feet and a lobed base. The inner liners are removable.
The two French goldsmiths George Boin and his son-in-law Emile Taburet created around 1875 in Paris the company Boin-Taburet. They made many silver pieces inspired by the beautiful services of the eighteenth century. At the Paris Universal Exhibition of 1878, Georges Boin presented a “service de toilette” inspired by the work of François-Thomas Germain (1726-1791), and then at the Universal Exhibition of 1889, several epergnes, including one of them executed after drawings by the famous artist Juste-Aurèle Meissonier (1695-1750), as well as tea sets of Louis XIV, Louis XV and Louis XVI styles. This superb sculptural lamp depicts a cheetah elegantly sitting under a tree. Made in around 1980, by the well-known English firm of Asprey, the piece is an example of some of their finest work.
Nephrite, a semi-precious stone is superbly carved in a dome shape and acts as the lampshade. Its green colouring with speckles of black superbly acts as the tree top and adds a vibrant pop of colour to the piece. When light shines through the nephrite, the patterns are emphasized and transform the appearance of the lamp as well as its surrounding. Gilt metal detailing tops the lampshade and decorates the rim.
A gilt metal tree trunk connects the lampshade to the base. Several twisted branches extend at the top, appearing as if they are getting lost inside the leaves imitated by nephrite. The superbly cast texture of a tree trunk adds to the realistic feel of the piece.

Gio Ponti was an icon of the modernist movement: the Italian designer, architect, artist and publisher contributed significantly to the worlds of architecture and design with his extensive work in Fine furniture and ceramics, education, office and residential buildings, and everything in between.
Gio Ponti was born in 1891 in Milan. It was there that he spent his childhood, and in 1921 he began to study architecture at the Politecnico di Milano. From 1923 to 1930 he served as the artistic director of the Richard-Ginori porcelain factory. In 1927, Ponti started his first architectural office, together with Emilio Lancia, and in 1928 he started the magazine Domus, which is still regarded as one of the most influential European magazines for architecture and design. He was also very influential during the period as a curator of the Milan Triennale.
After his collaboration with Emilio Lancia had come to an end, upon completion of the Torre Rasini, he began to work as an architect together with the engineers Antonio Fornaroli and Eugenio Soncini...
