Antique Hand Carved Phoenix & Dragon w. Large Mirror Side Table Entry Hall Stand
Located in Lisse, NL
Rare large and extremely sculptural wall table with marble inlay and beveled mirror. If you are appreciative of rare and sculptural antiques then this large mirror /side table could be exactly what you are looking for. The quality and the patina of the large, fighting phoenix bird and dragon frame is second to none and for it to be in such good condition is truly amazing. It takes a special craftsman and artist to create such a piece, the type that you simply don't find anymore in this day and age. Because of the subject matter and the great quality, the first name that comes to mind would be that of master sculptor Gabriel Viardot. However, Viardot virtually made all of his dragon sculptures in the Chinoiserie style and this piece is clearly more European. In terms of the quality of the carvings, whomever created this unique piece of furniture certainly was no less artistic or skilled as Viardot, because this piece really is among the best you will ever see. The way in which this hand carved wooden phoenix is holding the shield-like beveled mirror in its claws and the way the dragon seems to try to fend off the enormous and fierce phoenix is both dramatic and impressive at the same time and it will never seize to amaze you or anyone visiting. Especially when you see the detailed carvings and the true size of this work of beauty in real life, you will be stunned. By the way, we learned that in imperial China, the dragon and the phoenix were respectively associated with the Emperor and the Empress...

19th Century French Napoleon III Embossed & Gilded Mirror
Located in Dallas, TX
19th century French Napoleon III Embossed & gilded mirror displays extraordinary detail in a celebration of the classical style! Embossing patterns include a bordering all around, with a tier of intriguing foliates, next to a gold bordering and a raised, half-cylindrical molding that is raised from the surface and embossed to depict bundled florals with several types of flowers represented in the detail. Finally, around the original beveled mirror itself appears one last triple tier of gold molding with beading accent. The original silver is starting to show distress at the bottom, typical for mirrors of this age, which to the cognoscenti only adds to the charm and allure! A tailored corbel appears at the bottom on each side as a finishing transitional touch to the surface upon which the mirror is mounted, which can range anywhere from the floor to a magnificent fireplace...

Unique Vintage and Antique Floor Mirrors and Full-Length Mirrors for Sale

Bringing antique and vintage floor mirrors and full-length mirrors into your home is a no-brainer. The right mirror in the bedroom, bathroom and by the door in your home’s entryway — for last-minute accessorizing, of course — can make all the difference.

However, knowing where to strategically place your mirror can help illuminate your interior design choices and add a glamorous accent to any room.

A large beveled floor mirror can add depth to a space — particularly if you’re working with small rooms. It can echo the contour lines of wall paneling and make a bedroom appear larger than it is. Both floor mirrors and full-length mirrors create a window-like effect, reflecting light and brightening the room. Hanging a large mirror opposite a window will flood a room with natural light and engender a feeling of spaciousness.

Consider the placement of a mirror in the room: Displaying vases, boxes and other decorative objects in front of a mirror reflects these items, drawing attention to a prized collection and emphasizing their visual qualities for dramatic effect.

A large antique wall mirror or celebrated iconic design such as Paul Evans’s Patchwork mirror or the flashy, sensuous Ultrafragola mirror created by Ettore Sottsass can be positioned as the focal point in a living room or dining room.

When your mirror isn’t the star of the show, it can be used to enhance a focal point. Hang abstract art — a grouping of paintings or drawings, perhaps — on the wall opposite the mirror to establish narrative character in a space and create an intriguing color pattern.

It is important to consider the size, shape and frame of a mirror. Most full-length mirrors have a traditional rectangular shape, but postmodern mirrors may offer more variety. For a mirror that makes a bold statement, Art Deco mirrors typically feature geometrically pronounced frames that stand out in a room.

Add light to your interiors while providing an artistic accent to any room. Browse the selection of antique and vintage floor mirrors and full-length mirrors on 1stDibs today.
