Born in the US in the early 20th century, the large, double sided, painted red iron circular disc shaped "target" sign; mounted to painted black cast iron central pedestal standard; surmounted by hand hammered and chiseled raw iron three inch tall finial; rising from a later five spoke pentagonal black iron base, elaborately shaped, fan form with niche curved flowing lines. The central standard can unscrew from the base for easy transportation and storage.

Two fine English Georgian, probably Staffordshire, child’s pearlware plates decorated with religious scenes and verse dating from the early 19th century. The finely potted plates are of octagonal shape both with relief molded fruit and floral designs to the rim, one hand painted and other simply glazed rim but with a pink lustre edge. Due to the edge patterning being the same we believe the plates to have originated from the same pottery. Both plates have printed religious scenes to the center with printed prayers, possibly as teaching aids for children. One has a scene of Christ rising from the dead with a prayer reading ‘Behold him rising from the grave. Behold him raised on high. wood miniature chest having four long drawers
with original brass knobs raised on original
shaped bracket feet.
(There is often debate as to whether miniature furniture was
made as an apprentice piece, which is when a craftsmen who
is looking for a job at a workshop would create something to
showcase their talents, or whether it was made as a travelling
salesman's sample piece, which is when a few articles were
made as scale models in advance of a road trip during which a
salesman would travel the country showing prospective clients
the kind of items they could produce back at the workshop and
take orders from. This particular example doesn't really appear
to quite fit either of those briefs however and may well have just
been made as an individual, one off piece in a provincial workshop.
One of the reasons for this is the construction from solid yewwood
which is a rarely used material in items any larger than this as the
trunks generally don't grow large enough. The overall quality is
excellent and clearly somebody has spent many, many hours
producing this wonderful piece. A really quite charming piece of
antique miniature furniture...
