Pair of consoles or bedside tables in white lacquered wood with gold leaf finish; the two pieces of furniture have a graceful and light design, with soft and elegant curves in pure Rococo style; the application of the gold leaf technique along the edges enriches and completes the entire aesthetics; the right height and the presence of a comfortable drawer make them both usable as refined consoles or functional pair of bedside tables; they were made between 1850 and 1870 in Venice in the style most in vogue and loved by the lagoon city: the Rococò. We have carried out a careful restoration by a skilled craftsman, who, using the same old technique, has restored the two objects to their former glory. The lacquered furniture represents one of the highest expressions of European 18th-century furniture art, mainly in Italy and France. The lacquering is an ancient technique, extremely long and complex, used by the artisans of the East already in very remote times. Towards the middle of the 18th century the French cabinetmakers, rediscovering the ancient oriental formulas, produced a varnish, recognized in 1744 also by King Louis XV himself, it was adopted in France as commonly used western...
