About the Item

A graceful and color rich wedding carpet, this finely woven rug was created in the town of Lavar near the city of Kerman.Designed with hexagonal shapes, repeated and alternated, finely decorated with over a hundred fruit trees such as pomegranate tree, apple ,peers, cherry and peach trees and scores of wedding gifts such as candy and fruits baskets being carried by caterers on their heads supported by head cushions all with beautiful details, visualizing a noble Persian family wedding ceremony. The rug must have been commissioned by a local lord as a gift to the bride's family or woven by the bride herself to symbolize a special day of her life. Woven with hand spun wool and ideally suited for organic vegetarian dyes, the artists designer and weavers of this piece employed all organic elements to dye the wool such as apple and onion skin for pea green, indigo for all shades of blues, pomegranate and beet skin for shades of red and other elements like saffron , fig leaves, sunflower hues and seashell. The pile of the rug is evenly low, there are few professional restorations completed on this rug. All ends and sides are original and overall condition of the rug considering the age of it is great.
