This gorgeous pair of lounge chairs made of Brazilian Rosewood was produced in the 1960s by the company Celina Decorações, which signed one of the most modern lines of Brazilian furniture at the period.
The armchairs have rectangular loose cushions that fit the structure perfectly, recently reupholstered in a Boucle fabric by the experienced craftsmen in our team following archival references.
Based in Rio de Janeiro, the Celina Decorações factory imposed high-quality standards, maintaining handcrafted characteristics. The company was created in 1951 when Munis Zilberberg takes over the family business - a small upholstery workshop that worked on refurbishing sofa beds and antique furniture. A spindle back armchair designed by Anna-Luelja Praun (1906-2004), Vienna, Austria, manufactured in midcentury, circa 1952.
It is made of a warm toned solid wood frame with two loose leather cushions for the seat and the back. The cognac colored leather has a beautiful patina. The chair is in great condition with little wear on the cushions.
About Anna-Lülja Praun:
Anna-Lülja Praun was born in Sankt Petersburg, Russia, in 6/29/1906 and lived in Vienna until 9/28/2004. She was an important Austrian designer and architect and she was one of the first females who studied architecture in Austria.
In 1947 she worked on the restoration of the palace Belvedere which was heavily damaged in the second world war. In 1952 she opened her own studio in Vienna. She designed houses, interiors, furniture, shops, light fixtures, and pottery (together with Gudrun Baudisch).
From 1953-1959 she also worked for the furniture shop „Haus und Garten“ which was established by Josef Frank in 1925.
In 1959 she designed a bench „Bank zum Ausruhen“ for the conductor Herbert von Karajan.
