About the Item

Extremely rare cardboard prototype chair for Frank Gehry from the estate of Margot Alofsin, an architect of Gehry Partners. Corrugated cardboard chair with two slender front legs and a wide loop rear base that is one solid shape with the rest of the body. Evidence that this item is still in its prototype phase can be seen in the exposed screws that can be seen occasionally on the chair's joints and sides. Ergonomic backrest with a thin width contrasted against the bowed out seat. This chair seems to pull all of the best inspiration from Italian dining chairs of the time. Gehry's experimentation with cardboard furniture grew from his extensive use of it in architectural models and has become a signature of his design. Purchased from the estate of Margot Alofsin.
