George Nakashima New Chairs

About the Item

Pair of chairs designed by George Nakashima and made by Widddicomb in the late 1950s as part of their ‘Origins’ line. Known as ‘New’ chairs, these have solid walnut seats and legs, with a seat back of hickory spindles topped by dramatic crescents of walnut. Wonderfully comfortable and effortlessly elegant these chairs are beautiful collector’s items. Both chairs have George Nakashima brands and finish stamped underneath. There is a slight color variation between the New Chairs that makes them a particularly beautiful pairing. One chair is the Sundra finish and one is the Titian finish -- the Titian being slightly lighter in color. Nakashima's New Chairs have stood the test of time as classic, iconic pieces of design. They work well as dining room chairs or as standalone living room chairs. Structurally sound and in very good vintage condition.
