About the Item

The Fantastic plastic elastic chair, aka FPE, is a lightweight, stackable chair designed by Ron Arad for Kartell. With soft lines and bright colors, the FPE's unique design joins a single sheet of plastic to two parallel aluminum tubes creating a sturdy yet flexible structure. Light and practical, soft and sinuous, the FPE was released in white, sea green, blue, and red by Kartell beginning in 1997. The black color, which this FPE chair is, was never commercially available. Combining the rarity of the color with the fact that it was hand-signed by Ron Arad himself makes this a very rare example of a classic design. In vintage condition with wear consistent with age and use, including marking to the seat and back. (See photos.) Measures: 31" x 17" x 22".
