Alvar Aalto Early Model 401 Bentwood Lounge Chair, 1940s

About the Item

An early Alvar Aalto Model 401 lounge chair, circa 1940s. 1 owner, purchased from the original buyer. This early example with unique sculpted "wings" on the top of the headrest. Chair was refinished once in the 80's, and has since acquired some beautiful patina. Lovely condition with light, age consistent cosmetic wear to the frame. Nothing distracting whatsoever. The upholstery is brand new, and, quite stunning. We chose an amazing natural flax linen and for the buttons we used 1950s cognac calfskin leather which we salvaged from an old Danish chair. It pops against the neutral tone of the fabric adding a tiny bit of flair. This chair is oh so comfy and ready for use.
