About the Item

Pair of vintage 1979 Executive Chairs designed by Charles Pollock for Knoll. The chairs come in their original burnt orange upholstery, a perfect mid-century modern color! It is truly a miracle to find these decades old chairs with their original fabric in such great condition. The chairs swivel 360 have a tilt adjuster to modify the pitch of the seat. First designed in 1963, Pollock’s timeless design continues to be produced by Knoll in a variety of finishes. The chair is well padded and incredibly comfortable. Pollock designed a working chair that is as cozy as a lounge chair. The rolling and and adjustable base, combined with comfort, make this the ideal desk chair. The Knoll label is present with a date stamp of 1979. The Pollock Executive Chair features what the designer described as “rim technology”—the use of a single aluminum band around the chair’s perimeter to hold the design together, structurally and visually. Fifty years after its introduction, the Pollock Chair continues to exude timeless elegance in any home or office. About Charles Pollock After graduating from Pratt Institute and working with George Nelson, Charles Pollock assembled a portfolio of designs and presented them to Florence Knoll and began working on the 657 Lounge sling chair in 1961. Pollock again demonstrated his command of line and material when he conceived the 1250 series executive collection, introduced in 1965. His idea for the chair was to use an aluminum “rim,” which outlined the chair as the main structural and design element. This rim would hold the parts together, without any further support; slots in the aluminum held the back shell and the upholstery in place, and the plastic back became rigid only after being fitted into the frame. The resulting design was an achievement in structure and aesthetics, and the chair remains a Knoll classic to this day. Dimensions: 26.25” Wide x 28.25” Deep x 31-36” High (18-23” seat height) Condition: The chairs have been professionally steam cleaned. There are no rips or stains on the fabric. The black trim around the seat has new black paint. The arms have black areas have some scuffs and scratches. One chair has a replaced button. One chair has a repaired arm. The chairs roll, adjust and swivel well.

Tulip Group Lounge Chairs in Rosewood by K M Wilkins for G-Plan of England
By Percival Lafer, G Plan Furniture, Thonet, Charles and Ray Eames
Located in Chattanooga, TN
Matching sofa also available and sold separately (see last pic). This incredible set was purchased new in Glasgow, Scotland in 1970. We acquired from the original owners who kept them in pristine condition. Designed by K.M. Wilkins for G-Plan of England, this line is appropriately named the "Tulip Group". Wilkins also designed the the well known Housemaster Chair, often misattributed to Ib Kofod Larsen. The "Tulip" design is demonstrated by the rosewood panels which are molded into curves that mimic a blossoming flower. Offered almost exclusively in teak, this rosewood set is truly a rare find. The rich, amber-red panels are perfectly complimented by the chrome hardware and velvet fabric. The luxuriously soft velvet is in amazing condition. The color is difficult to describe, but in our opinion, it's a cross between olive-green and taupe-brown. Of course the refraction of light on velvet can magnify or minimize the tones and highlights depending on the angle and environment. Both chairs hover on their original Magnum Orbit chrome...
