Charlotte Perriand, Vintage Berger Stool, circa 1950s, Mahogany

About the Item

Vintage berger stool - circa 1950s - solid single slab mahogany top - provenance private residence Paris, France The Berger stool, a timeless piece of furniture, was designed in 1953 by renowned French architect and designer Charlotte Perriand. Originally created for the Les Arcs ski resort in the French Alps, the Berger stool is a prime example of Perriand’s innovative and functional design philosophy. For this milk stool, she took the everyday object out of its usual context and placed it in a new setting. Charlotte Perriand often repurposed existing designs by either giving them a new function or slightly adapting them to meet contemporary needs. Crafted from a single piece of elegantly curved wood and featuring three legs, the Berger stool is both practical and aesthetically pleasing. Its lightweight construction and thoughtful design make it easy to move and a versatile seating option for any modern interior. Named after Perriand’s friend and collaborator, Jean Berger, the Berger stool has become a beloved icon of midcentury design. Its simplicity, elegance, and functionality make it an ideal addition to any artfully curated space. Experience the berger stool for yourself and discover why it remains a modern design Classic. As a gallery showcasing the best in contemporary design, we are proud to offer this iconic piece of furniture as a tribute to Charlotte Perriand’s visionary work.
