Lina Bo Bardi has worked on a series of projects in Salvador, including the Casa do Benin restaurant and the Teatro Gregório de Mattos. They created original furniture for their projects in the newly opened furniture factory Baraúna. Their first attempt was inspired by Alvar Aalto and the furniture of the sanatório de Paimio, a sanatorium built in the 1930s in Finland. Lina, who had a deep knowledge of plants and wood, used solid wood from Brazil instead of plywood. The first piece in the series, named Girafa for its giraffe-like form, was a chair, which was followed by a high chair stool and an embroiderer's chair.
