Meltdown Chair, PE Pink by Tom Price, Contemporary, Limited Edition
Located in PARIS, FR
'Meltdown Chair, PE Pink' is a piece by English artist Tom Price, from the Meltdown Series. This chair is made entirely from polyethylene sheets, no other material is added. The artist creates a knotted mass of pink polyethylene sheeting and then he presses it on a heated metal seat-shaper former. The sheets melt and, when they cool and subsequently harden, the shape of the seat is created, while the remaining plastic is heated and sculpted into solid twisting forms. Tom Price thus alters the structural and aesthetic qualities of the plastic material, giving rise to interesting contrasts in texture and form within the same object. Launched in 2007, the Meltdown Series earned Tom Price widespread international acclaim for his innovative production processes and eye-catching approach to working with commonplace plastic products. The way of assembling the plastic material and the mostly unpredictable patterns created by the heating method ensure that every piece is unique and unrepeatable. This design pieces are true sculptural objects, while at the same time being fully functional and very robust. Meltdown Chairs are included in the permanent collections of several Museums, including SFMOMA San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (US), the Denver Art Museum (US), The Nelson Atkins Museum (US), Chatsworth House (UK), MKG Hamburg (Germany) and the Amore Pacific Museum (South Korea). Works from the Meltdown Series have been exhibited extensively throughout the USA, South America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. They have been included in many high-profile museum exhibitions, including SFMOMA San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (US), MAD Museum of Art and Design New York (US); The Mint Museum (US); Denver Art Museum (US); Design Museum Holon (Israel); Design Museum Gent (Belgium); NRW Forum Dusseldorf (Germany); The Latvian National Museum of Art in Riga (Latvia). They have also featured at international art and design fairs, including Design Miami Basel (Switzerland); Sao Paolo Design Festival (Brazil); Cheongju International Craft Biennale (South Korea), Design Days Dubai (United Arab Emirates); Gwangju Biennale (South Korea) and Lodz International Design Biennale (Poland). Finally, the series has been featured in multiple publications, including: The Campaign for Art...

Meltdown Bench, 5-Seater Blue by Tom Price, Contemporary
Located in PARIS, FR
'Meltdown Bench, 5-seater Blue' is a piece by English artist Tom Price, from the Meltdown Series. Unlimited edition. Available on commission only. This bench is made entirely from polypropylene rope, no other material is added. The artist starts its creation by rolling up the rope around a ball – which is later removed, and then he presses a part of the rope ball on a heated metal seat-shaper former. The rope melts and, when it cools and subsequently hardens, the shape of the seat is created. Tom Price thus alters the structural and aesthetic qualities of the plastic material, giving rise to interesting contrasts in texture and form within the same object. Rare Organic Modern Sculpture / Bench Attributed to Frederick Kiesler circa 1947
By Frederick John Kiesler
Located in New York, NY
A Rare sculpture / organic modern bench in thick, layered and molded plywood attributed to the European-American artist, sculptor, designer, Frederick J. Kiesler (born in Ukraine, 1890-1965) circa 1947. The works are important and signify the development of post-war design into abstract biomorphic sculptural forms. They occupy a curving, organic space and their negative space conveys transparency, lightness and airiness. They represent the continuity between art and life, movement and sculpture. Frederick Kiesler designed variant sculptural organic form chairs...

Materiality Vol. 1: Side Table & Stool by Eduard Locota. Acrylic Glass & Bronze
Located in Timisoara, RO
MATERIALITY series represents the thinnest line between sculpture and design. TECHNICAL DATA: Each piece is entirely made by hand by Eduard Locota himself, from acrylic glass & cold cast bronze. Each artwork is accompanied with a certificate of authenticity signed and dated by the artist. Made to order; build process takes 4-6 weeks; please allow extra time for custom orders (colors can be customized upon request). Every object has his own persona and is entirely made by hand using similar techniques used in metal casting. We have literally endless color combinations, and each color accentuates the different personalities of the objects. Dimensions: l 47 cm / w 46 cm / h 42cm Ultra limited edition of 12 + 4 ap. * shipping worldwide: all our artworks are insured and packed in a custom-made wooden box. * dimensions may vary 1 – 2 cm. FEW WORDS FROM THE ARTIST: “I left on the surface of the object the imprints of my own fingers, of my hands, as well as the strikes and marks left by the actual tools used to shape the work. Later on, i took molds of my hands, fingers and of the tools that were actually used in the making of this unique piece, and duplicated them in cold cast bronze to complete the artistic statement.” For this set of works, the synthetic materials were chosen rationally in order to explain both the physical and conceptual materiality of the theme. Though, exactly the opposite for our case, the common perception of any synthetic material is usually disposable, mass-produces and low-grad. This gives birth to a discussion about the ethical value of synthetic materials and man’s ability to perceive it culturally. The story of the transformation of matter into an object, about the transformation of the object into a good, about the monetization of the good. PLASTIC CONCEPT: From the oldest of times, our species has experienced a strong symbiosis with matter. Humans have learned to model matter, turned it into tools, and then used it to create objects. The man of the 21st century has shaped the Anthropocene era to his liking; and plasticized it to his own mirror. The project called materiality, is centered around the last geological era, popularly known as the plastic age...
