Carlton 30th Anniversary Bookcase by Ettore Sottsass for Memphis Design

About the Item

Carlton is the most famous and iconic of all the objects designed for Memphis Milano. The piece was designed by Ettore Sottsass and first presented at the historic Memphis exhibition in Milan on September 18, 1981. Carlton is a large shelving or partition wall decorated with colorful blocks and the famous "bacterium" motif. On the occasion of the 30th anniversary (2011) of Memphis, a limited edition of 30 pieces with 24 kt gold-plated silver label and special "vault" style wooden case was made. This product is numbered 3/30 and is sold with the wooden case of the original edition. Wooden bookcase covered in decorative laminate, depicting the classic "bacteria" pattern.
