About the Item

A standout of mid-century modern design, this Drexel “Profile” Model K4 low dresser by John Van Koert is an exercise in refined geometry and graceful utility. Sculpted from rich walnut and elevated on subtly flared legs, its profile is anchored by the signature hardware—pleated, bracelet-like pulls above and elegant teardrop accents below—a thoughtful nod to Van Koert's background in jewelry design. The composition comprises eight meticulously crafted dovetailed drawers—four petite drawers at the top (two of which conceal delicate jewelry trays) over four spacious lower drawers—all designed to save and elevate the ritual of daily life. The base features a soft, wave-like contour that echoes the silhouette of the drawer pulls—integrating functional aesthetics into every angle. Measuring approximately 60 inches wide, 21 inches deep, and 32 inches high, and accompanied by its matching mirror (approximately 44 inches wide, 2 inches deep, and 35 inches high), this ensemble offers both visual breadth and sculptural coherence—ideal for refined bedrooms, luxurious dressing rooms, or gallery-like interiors. Currently restored to a thoughtful vintage state, the top surface displays gentle wear consistent with its history, while the walnut retains a luminous patina. The mirror’s frame elegantly echoes the dresser’s lines, completing the composition with subtle architectural flair. K4 low dresser designed by John Van Koert for Drexel’s “Profile” collection. This dresser is a stylish powerhouse of wardrobial organization. There are a total of eight drawers, four small drawers at top and four wide drawers below. The solid wood, American made drawers are all dovetailed. The far left and right top drawers hold a little treat, jewelry trays! Van Koert began his career as a jewelry designer which is evidenced in the beautifully contoured pulls. The bars on the drawers look like platinum bracelets and the tear drop pulls could easily be imagined as earrings. Great attention was paid in the details here, all vantages hold a surprise for the eye. This dresser is a masterpiece of design with every aspect considered. The bottom span between the legs is a gentle wave, mimicking the handle silhouette. The matching wall matching mirror is included with purchase. Contact us if you would like to purchase this dresser without the mirror. We have an entire suite of Drexel Profile furniture. Bedroom pieces are available including a low dresser, mirror, gentlemen’s chest, and king bed headboard. Complete your living room with the credenza and matching coffee table. All additional pieces from this collection are sold separately. Contact us if you are interested in a group pricing on multiple pieces. Drexel Furniture's "Profile" line was designed by John van Koert and released in mid-1955. van Koert was already well-known at the time for designing Towle's "Contour" line of cutlery, as well as Drexel "Projection." He was also the director of "Design in Scandinavia," a traveling museum exhibition that went around the United States showcasing pieces from 1954-1957 and helped spark the US interest in Danish design. The extensive Profile group has great poise and although contemporary in spirit, is adaptable and answers the demand for furniture that neither fakes the spirit of a past style nor merely expresses a designer's whim.
