About the Item

An early and rare edition of the 'ETR' (Elliptical Table Rod base) known as the 'Surfboard' coffee table. Design by Charles & Ray Eames in 1951 for Herman Miller. Black laminated table top. Unlike the later editions with the regular plywood construction, this version has 3 layers of solid pine. The steel wire base shows lovely light oxidation and patina. Overall in excellent vintage condition, with normal age consistent wear, including light general wear to the edge of the table and nominal cosmetic scratches and fading to the laminate top consistent with age. You'll be hard pressed to find a nicer example of this design. This is perfect as a large scale coffee table, but would also work wonderfully under a large window with plants and books on top, or at the foot of a low bed. Condition notes: The steel wire base shows lovely light oxidation and patina. Overall in excellent vintage condition, with normal age consistent wear, including light general wear to the edge of the table, and nominal cosmetic scratches and fading to the laminate top consistent with age.

Herman Miller white ETR coffee table designed by Charles and Ray Eames,1951. ETR was the abbreviated name of the Elliptical (E) Table (T) on a Rod (R) base. Long really means long in the case of ETR (226cm). But because it’s just under 75cm wide it doesn’t overwhelm the room.It stands very low and has a very distinctive shape which helped coin the alternative name of the Eames ‘Surfboard’ table...
