Ettore Sottsass Central Park Cocktail Table in Marble, Rare, 1983

About the Item

Rare Central Park cocktail table designed in 1983 by Ettore Sottsass for Knoll Studio, comprising a floating, Emperador Dark marble base and eight Nero Marquina marble columns with inset hemispheres supporting a glass top. Part of Sottsass’ first series of designs for Knoll, alongside his Eastside and Westside seating collections, the table’s restrained form is modernist in spite of its anti-design creator, while its columnar supports act as subtle reference to Sottsass' totems and prolific use of primitive and ancient forms. In production until 1991, the table was offered in three different sizes with this example being the largest. Rare to market. * base = 40" sq. * glass = 45" sq. * base thickness = 4.75" * float height = .5"
