About the Item

Striking coffee table model PK63a designed by Poul Kjaerholm and manufactured by Ejvind Kold Christensen, Denmark 1968. In 1968, Poul Kjærholm set out to design a series of tables that could be combined with his collection of lounge chairs and sofas. The resulting PK63A was created in connection with the PK31 2-seater and 3-seater sofas. The iconic coffee table features a satin-brushed stainless-steel base and a tabletop made of marble. In this specific example the top was made of the rare Porsgrunn marble (not the stone which is still available nowadays). The tables by Poul Kjaerholm in Porsgrunn are the most sought after by collectors. As this is the rarest marble finish, it also is the most beautiful one. As the marble has a very rough and interesting look, sometimes with fossil prints in it (like this one). And of course, the contrast of the super minimalistic frame is amazing with the busy pattern of the marble. This table is in very good original condition, without any mention worthy wear. The frame is also stamped with the Denmark stamp on the inside of the frame. Because of its neutral colour and materials use, this can be used in any modern home or interior. Porsgrunn marble was offered during the 1970's, before the supply of Porsgrunn was extinguished (reportedly) with the completion of Arne Jacobsens Denmark's Nationalbank 1978, Denmarks Central bank. This marble is the result of the long extinct Porsgrunn coral beds, tempered by time and fine hammered finish. Today, Porsgrunn tables are among collectors` most sought after pieces and makes this piece valuable and on high demand.
