Beautiful oil painting on canvas, framed in an elegant carved and gilded wooden frame, complete with mirror. This work, belonging to the famous Florentine painter Raffaello Sorbi, bears the artist's signature at the bottom right and is dated 1863, placing it in his early youthful production. Sorbi's stylistic characteristics are clearly visible, in which the warm Macchiaioli tones blend with neo-Gothic and romantic subjects, taken from the Renaissance and the Middle Ages. In this case the painting portrays the meeting between Dante and Beatrice, set in Florence, in front of a church, probably the Badia Fiorentina, a place frequented by both Dante, Beatrice and their respective families. Against the backdrop of Renaissance Florence, you can see people entering and leaving the church, while on the sides of the main scene there are figures of the people and a little girl sitting on the steps. Set in carved gilt wood frames and signed in the lower right and left corner by american artist Robert Lebron, each mid-century art work is painted on canvas and depicts a typical Parisian scene in the style of Edouard Cortes or Galien Laloue. One scene depicts the Place de la Madeleine and the other Place de la Paix with the Opera in the background. Both paintings are in excellent condition with rich and vivid colors.
Robert Lebron (1928-2013) was an American impressionist artist. He was born in New York City, where he attended New York City's High School of Music and Arts. He also went on to study at the Art's Students' League for five years. Lebron developed his own personal technique after several extensive stays in Europe, relying on the use of a palette knife rather than brushes. Lebron has painted in Europe, particularly London and Paris, in Italy and Spain, in Canada and Mexico. He won such awards as the Forbes Magazine Award (travel grant), and he has had one-man shows at the Galeria Studio in Madrid and in New Jersey, Connecticut, Illinois and in his home city ( NYC). Most of his paintings feature favorite characters from his childhood including a tiny dog present in most of his paintings, inspired by the comic strip Dickie Dare. The joyful indoor family scene depicting a Christmas and new year's celebration with an elder seated couple, the grandparents, the grandmother holding a toddler on her arms, the grandfather with his smoking pipe by his side, both enjoying a young boy's (grandson) poem recital, while other children await their turn with gifts as the mesmerized young parents Stand and watch in awe. A Christmas tree by the window, a cat sneaking by and a basket with wine and bread awaits being delivered as a gift to the elders. A young boy sits patiently on a chair, an apple and an umbrella by his side. Signed: Fried Ortlieb, München 1873 - (lower right). An engraved brass plaque reads "New Year's at the grandfathers - Friederich Ortlieb 1839-1909) Munich, circa 1873.
Friedrich Ortlieb was an accomplished artist, born in Stuttgart in 1839 and died in Munich on the 4th October 1909. He received his formal art training at the L’Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Stuttgart and also at Steffeck, Berlin. He exhibited widely, though most notably in Dresden and Vienna from 1871. He is best remembered for his genre scenes with children as shown in this finely detailed example of his work. Epitomizing the very best in this genre, Ortlieb depicts the character and personality of the children in joyful situations with accuracy and great sensitivity to the subject matter, a frozen moment in time with so much detail and emotion expressed in the children’s and elder's faces.

18th Century French Pastoral and Harbor Scene Oil Painting in Ornate Gilt Frame

This monumental antique oil on canvas painting was created in France, circa 1790. Set in a carved gilt frame, the large artwork depicts a pastoral scene with the port of Marseilles in the background; it features people playing cards around a table, one lady napping with a dog beside her, another woman with her kid carrying flowers, a man courting a young beauty sitting on a bench, and horses in movement. The inscription on the rider's flag reads "Liberte de L'Escaut 1793," likely referring to the Battle of Raismes (also known as the Battle of Conde or St. Amand) which took place on 8 May 1793, during the Flanders Campaign of the Wars of the French Revolution. It was between the French Republican army and the Allied Coalition army, and resulted in an Allied Victory. A possible signature is not legible in the lower left corner of painting. The important painting is in excellent condition with lots of wonderful and interesting details, and embellished with an elegant frame! Place this huge artwork...
