About the Item
An elegant and gracious example of illustration art at its height in 1930, this charming scene depicts an elegant couple in a city park, the female figure feeding a squirrel, and her admirer watching from nearby. Clearly painted to frame a two-page spread in a popular magazine, this scene was created to illustrate a romantic short story by Wilmot Heitland, one of the leading illustrators of his day. Heitland is best known for painting High Society scenes for countless magazines in the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s, but he also loved to capture the local natives when he travelled to tropical locales such as Hawaii and the Dominican Republic. (Dimensions include full margin of board.)

This remarkable and stunning set of six sensuous prints, highlighted in gold and silver ink, was published and bound by John Henry Nash in 1926 to honor the life of his frequent collaborator, Ray Frederick Coyle.
