About the Item

Pair of miniature paintings with bucolic landscapes and figures in shades of blue, two Enamel plates painted with landscapes with figures within gilded frames, of European and probably French provenance executed on an enameled metal plate. They were designed as a pendant in that the compositions are mirrored and are presented within a frame of embossed and fire-gilded copper. The miniatures depict shepherds at rest while grazing sheep, with landscapes and architecture in the background. In excellent condition, dating back to the 1700s. Enamel decoration involves the application of a fused glass powder applied to a metal background to which it adheres by the same fusion process. During the 1700s there was a rich production of snuff boxes, umbrella handles , delightful and futile niceties in which enamel has no distinction, except material, from painted porcelain. Questi oggetti vengono spediti dall'Italia. Secondo la legislazione italiana vigente, qualsiasi opera d'arte creata oltre 50 anni fa richiede una licenza governativa per l'esportazione chiamata Belle Arti. Shipping may require an additional 2 weeks of handling to apply for and obtain a license depending on the final destination of the artwork.
