This piece is very utilitarian in the world of easels, it can display two paintings at once, the round knobs which the paintings sit on are removable and height adjustable, you can see it offers 13 different positions
Condition wise it has been deep cleaned, hand condition waxed and hand polished from top to bottom, there will be normal age and use related patina marks here and there

A History of Howard and Sons
The name of Howard and Sons is probably one of the best known and highly sought-after names in Upholstered furniture. Over the next few paragraphs, I will do my best to give you a brief history of the company.
The company was started by John Howard in 1820 trading from 24 Leman St, London as a Cabinet Maker. Over the next 25 years they would make several changes of premises within the Whitechapel area. First to 27 Great Alie St (Now just Alie St) before moving a short distance to 34 Great Alie St.
In 1844 the company made its first venture into upholstered furniture by opening a showroom/workshop at 36 Red lion St. This was also to be a big move towards what would be their next and most famous location. In 1848 they moved to a new address much more accustomed with the name; Berners St. London as “Cabinet Maker, Upholsterer and Decorator” under the name John Howard and Sons.
The business seemed to boom at this location with workshops opening up at Tottenham St, Charlotte Mews and Fitzroy Sq and an expansion to a second Berners St building in 1853. In 1869 the company consolidated its many workshops into the one building on Cleveland St.
By 1872 the company was occupying 25, 26 and 27 Berners St. These adresses would remain unchanged until 1935. During this period they became a limited company in 1899 and won the first of their Royal warrants in 1901. In 1935 the the well-established decorators Lenygon and Morant...

Very nicely custom framed in a transitional style black frame with wide silver inner lining. Framed, the painting measures approximately 35" high x 29" wide x 2" deep. Unframed painting measures approximately 30" high x 24" wide.
One of the key innovators of metal painting, Nottebohm creates what might be called sculptures on a flat plane. By removing microscopic layers from the metal surface, he transforms the material into patterns of shimmering light. The unusual luminous quality of Nottebohm's work comes from the aluminum surfaces he scores, using a variety of manual and machine tools. Aluminum can create light and movement that you cannot create with anything else. It is similar to the sun reflecting on water, and you see one painting from one side and another painting from another side.
East German born (1944) Andreas Nottebohm moved to Munich as a teenager and immigrated to the San Francisco Bay area of the United States in 1979, after touring the U.S. for a one man exhibition. While in Germany in the 1970s, he was one of the co-founders of the Society for Art and Science in Munich.

This painting depicts the episode from Shakespeare’s Henry VI Part II Act III Scene V in which
Sir John Falstaff inspects the recruits mustered by Justice Robert Shallow and his
cousin Silence. Falstaff sits in a chair surrounded by his cronies whilst Bardolph leads Bullcalf forward.
Hayman’s treatments of Falstaff reviewing recruits are perhaps among the most successful depictions of a theatrical scene in British painting. The tableau vibrates with the energy that he brought to his Vauxhall supper box scenes of games and dancing, and is filled with the humour and observation of his portraiture. Every figure is in motion and proclaims its own individuality.
About Robert Ball Hughes (British-American, 1804-1868)
Known as Ball Hughes and also using that as a signature, this man was a sculptor and wax-portrait artist. He was born in London, England, and died in Dorchester, Massachusetts. He studied and exhibited at the Royal Academy in London as well as at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and the National Academy of Design in New York City. He emigrated to New York in 1829, having earned much prestige in England. In New York, he received many commissions for portrait busts in bronze and wax. Among his subjects were John Trumbull, Alexander Hamilton, and Washington Irving. From 1838 to 1840, he worked in Philadelphia and from 1840, worked in Boston. We very recently purchased a small collection of very rare antique plaques, tiles and vases by some of the best known maker's in the history of Dutch ceramics. This unique, hand-crafted and hand-painted work of art is the first one of that collection and this stunning and rare, single tiles plaque is in its original wooden frame. Because of their contrasting colors, the frame and tile painting go together really well. And these are in fact two works of art, because both the stunningly hand-painted tile and the wooden frame are as good as they come. With the borders of the frame coming as far outward as they do and the Gothic church interior that is drawing your attention deep into the back of the church, they really complement each other. However beautiful the frame is, this antique ofcourse is about the painting and this particular painting is by one of Rozenburg's finest (Wijnand Bastiaan van Horssen) who has perfectly managed to enhance the depth that is already in this composition, thus creating a visual effect that is an absolute joy to look at. By the way, the price that you see on the 'sticker' that the former owner put on the back after he had purchased this piece was put there in the 'old days' when we still had the Dutch guilder. The original painting of the Nieuwe Kerk in the Hague Holland (built in circa 1650) was by J. Bosboom. Besides one small old crack and a few minor imperfections to the frame, this unique and wonderful work of art is in very good condition still and may it grace the home or chapel of a Gothic style enthousiast soon. Mind you, because of their relative fragility very few of these amazing and high value works of art are still around.
Rozenburg of the Hague, where this unique tile painting was created, was always one of the greats in Dutch ceramics and many of their works grace museums all over Europe. Rozenburg’s shareholders included the likes of the marine painter H.W. Mesdag (1831-1915) and the poet and literary critic Carel Vosmaer (1826-1888), and its tile painters numbered rising artists like Willem de Zwart...
