Bulgari
Greek silversmith Sotirios Voulgaris arrived in Rome in 1881 and set up his own shop there in 1884, calling it Bulgari, an Italianization of his last name (in the brand's logo, it's styled BVLGARI, using the classical Latin alphabet in a nod to ancient Roman culture). In 1905, he opened the company’s flagship boutique on Rome’s Via dei Condotti. Since then, Bulgari has looked to Rome as a source of reference for its fanciful and decidedly romantic designs for necklaces, bracelets, earrings and other accessories.
Although the iconic jewelry house found success with its silverwork and Art Deco designs, popular through the 1920s, Bulgari’s signature style — bold, often using yellow gold embellished with big colorful gemstones — began to emerge when Sotirios’s sons inherited the business, in 1932.
The brand truly hit its stride in the dolce vita era of the 1950s and ’60s, when the founder’s grandsons Paolo, Gianni and Nicola Bulgari decisively departed from demure traditional styles to develop the house’s exuberant multi-gem looks, attracting celebrity collectors like Elizabeth Taylor.
In the 1940s, Bulgari debuted perhaps its most famous design, the Serpenti bracelet watch. The piece’s snakelike coils were made possible by the tubogas jewelry technique, which links a flexible series of thin horizontal bands. Both the sleek, modern tubogas construction and the sinuous snake motif continue to be synonymous with the Bulgari brand.
On 1stDibs, the collection of vintage Bulgari jewelry includes rings, pendant necklaces, watches and other accessories.

- Van Cleef & Arpels Diamond Coral Clematis Brooch, circa 1960sBy Van Cleef & ArpelsLocated in New York, NYOne of the more notable features of the Clematis Brooch by Van Cleef & Arpels are the five petals, sometimes heart shaped and outlined in gold, sometimes made of dark highly polished wood or mother of pearl, or freely depicted in coral that ranges in coloration from pale to saturated. Few Clematis Brooches possess such overall lyrical movement as this example from the 1960s, however. The particular arrangement of these five coral petals is dynamic, and the exquisite carving makes them seem to lilt musically. A trademark of the Maison, flowers in their blooming glory appear to gracefully come to life. The curved stem and single leaf, in this brooch wrought in 18K yellow gold with naturalistic stamping on the leaf, adds to its delicate charm. Collectors should take note that coral has become an endangered species material since this piece was made, thus enhancing the value of coral Clematis Brooches extant. Characteristic of the Clematis Brooch—and also of the Maison’s coral...Category

- Vintage Diamond Blossom Convertible Double Clip BroochLocated in New York, NYAlthough made in the late 20th century, circa 1990s, this Vintage Diamond Blossom Convertible Double Clip Brooch is expertly hand fabricated with the same rigorous attention paid to the details of its Jazz Age counterparts. The piece appears to be a spectacularly bejeweled brooch, but it is actually referencing an Art Deco-era Double Clip Convertible Brooch. Two detachable halves are symmetrical like a playing card—a detail that creates lyrical movement as the eye traces a figure-eight around the design. The 3 x 2 inch (7.62 x 5.08 cm) double floral brooch is crafted in 18K white and yellow gold and set with round diamonds weighing approximately 18.00 carats total of G-H colors and VVS to VS clarity. The floral centers are comprised of pleasing grids of round canary yellow diamonds weighing approximately 11.50 carats total, ranging from Fancy Vivid...Category
