Very nice antique piece from the European art deco period, circa 1920. This large hat-dress pin has been crafted with chinoiserie patterns in solid .800/.999 silver and mounted on top with a decorative element carved from natural Nephrite jadeite jade. The carving depicts the flying figure of a mythological dragon.
The dragon is also a symbol of power, strength, and good luck for people who are worthy of it in east Asian culture. during the days of imperial China, the emperor of China usually used the dragon as a symbol of his imperial strength and power. In Chinese culture, excellent and outstanding people are compared to a dragon, while incapable people with no achievements are compared to other, disesteemed creatures, such as a worm. A number of Chinese proverbs and idioms feature references to a dragon, such as "hoping one's child will become a dragon".

Beautiful one of a kind piece, crafted by the renowned American silversmith artist Mardi Jo Cohen, back in the 1989. This sculptural geometric brooch was made with Memphis design patterns in solid sterling silver, with high polished finish. Fitted with a hinged bar and a mechanical lock to wear as a brooch. This can be also wear in a chain.
Gemstones: Mounted in bezel settings, with round cabochon cut gemstones such; black onyx and white nacre.

Mardi Jo Cohen was born in 1959. Her works can be found in the Yale University Collection, the National Museum of American Jewish History and the Museum of Art and Design in New York, as well as other prominent museums and galleries coast to coast. Often seen in the form of serving utensils and jewelry is rarely seen let alone available to acquire.
The Memphis style
Was emerged in 1981, when the Italian designer and architect Ettore Sottsass founded a group of artists and designers called Memphis. Bob Dylan’s song 'Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again' was playing on repeat during the group’s first meeting, which led to the group being named 'Memphis'. After the inaugural meeting, the group decided that they would meet again in February 1981. The members brought over 100 drawings with them, picturing a variety of bold, colorful designs with multiple stylistic influences. The Memphis Group went on to create furniture, fabrics, patterns, ceramics and other products in a distinctly Postmodern style that blended stylistic traits of 1950s kitsch, Art Deco, and Pop Art. If you love unashamedly brash and bold colors and patterns, you’ll be very happy to hear that the Memphis Style, the design style pioneered by the 1980s Memphis Group, is very much back in vogue.

An exceptional elongated brooch, created in Austria during the art nouveau period, back in the 1915. This magnifique piece has been carefully crafted with the egyptian revival style, in solid .900/.999 silver with brushed finish. The wings are accented with applications of the difficult technique of Plique à Jour in translucent yellow-green and bluish-gray enamels. Fitted at the reverse with a hinged horizontal bar with a security lock. The figure represent the Egyptian sacred scarab with open feathers wings, of the god Khepri.

Egyptian Winged Scarab
This kind of beetle was highly symbolic to ancient Egyptians, it represented rebirth and renewal. They believed that the sun was pushed across the sky every day by a giant scarab, the god Khepri. In real life, the scarab beetle lays its eggs in a ball of dung and rolls the ball ahead of it wherever it goes. Originated in Ancient Egypt. A scarab is shaped like a dung beetle. There is a head, wing case, and legs. It is sometimes rounded and sometimes flat. The scarab was associated with the god Khepri who was the god or rebirth, creation, and the sun. Dung beetles were the earthly personification of Khepri as they would lay their eggs in balls of dung and then roll the dung balls all around until the eggs hatched. Early hieroglyphics depict Khepri as a scarab holding up the sun. There were hundreds of memorial scarabs created to memorialize Amenhotep III’s deeds. These included the bull hunt scarab which symbolizes strength and victory over chaos. Later, around 2000 BCE the scarab was used in jewelry and as seals. A modern brooch beautifully rendered in solid 18K yellow gold and sterling silver by Christofle.
Founded in 1830, Christofle began collaborating with independent jewelry designers beginning in the 1980s, producing very limited numbers of pieces that have become instant collector's items.
This brooch is an excellent example. Simple and modern, the design, materials and workmanship are of the very highest quality.
The brooch measures 54.6mm (just over 2 inches) long by 13.9mm (just over 1/2 inch) high, and weighs 6.63 grams. In addition to the Christofle signature, it bears the French Assay Office eagle's head mark along with "18K" and "925."
The brooch is in excellent vintage condition and comes with its original green Christofle box.
