A stylish and fashion-current 1970s necklace by reknown jewelry maker Aldo Cipullo incorporating large graduated "life savers" of hand carved carnelian, connected by 18K gold links set with pyramid cut mottled light green jade elements. Gold mark and Cipullo mark. 21 1/2 inches long and 1 1/2 inches at the widest. 176 grams.
*Aldo Cipullo left Rome to come to New York when he was 23. He designed for David Webb and Tiffany, then in 1969 he introduced the "Love Bracelet" at Cartier. After Cartier, Aldo started his own design company, Aldo Cipullo Ltd., and in 1974 he won the prestigious Coty American Fashion Critics Award for Jewelry. He died in 1984.
*April 2012, Cartier presented an exhibition titled CARTIER & ALDO CIPULLO, NEW YORK CITY IN THE 70s.
The identical necklace in black was featured in the exhibition.
