Charles Sidney Clough (born February 2, 1951, in Buffalo, New York) is an American painter. His art has been exhibited in over 70 solo and over 150 group exhibitions throughout North America and Europe and is included in the permanent collections of over 70 museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, National Gallery of Art, and Smithsonian American Art Museum. Clough has received fellowships and grants from the New York State Council on the Arts, National Endowment for the Arts, Adolph Gottlieb Foundation, the Jackson Pollock-Lee Krasner Foundation, and the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation.
Charles Clough was born and raised in Buffalo, New York where he attended Hutchinson Central Technical High School. He then attended Pratt Institute in Brooklyn from 1969-1970 where the two-dimensional design teacher Joseph Phillips, introduced Artforum magazine to him. Clough dropped out and on January 5, 1971 decided that he would devote his life to art. He traded his sculptor's assistant services for studio space with artist Larry W. Griffis Jr., at the Ashford Hollow Foundation's 30 Essex Street former ice-house facility. From 1971-1972 he attended the Ontario College of Art and was introduced to the artists and galleries of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. By 1973 many of the University at Buffalo's and Buffalo State's art professors had rented studios at 30 Essex Street. One of these, Joseph Panone, brought his student, Robert Longo and introduced him to Clough, which resulted in the program of exhibitions and artists' visits which became Hallwalls in 1974. Robert Henry Hurdle, Royal West of England Academy (RWA) was born in London on 9th August 1918. He first trained at the Richmond School of Art and then after distinguished war service during World War 2 he studied painting at Camberwell School of Art under Sir William Coldstream and was later senior lecturer at the West of England College of Art ( later called Bristol Polytechnic ). He has exhibited widely across the British lsles and most notably in Hong Kong and the South of France. His most recent solo show was at the Art Room at Topsham, Devon in 2013. His work is featured in many public and private collections including Bristol City Art Gallery and the Royal West of England Academy.

A mid-century, abstract oil comprising a centrally placed and expansive star-shaped form accompanied by jagged, linear elements and superimposed on a background of ivory and midnight-blue; a dynamic and elegant New York School work showcasing the artist's characteristic, energetic and painterly brushwork.
Born in New York in 1902, Victor Thall first attended the Art Students League in New York City where he studied under Arthur B. Davies, George Bellows, John Sloan and Robert Henri. He furthered his studies at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts before leaving for Paris, in 1924, to attend the Ecole des Beaux Arts and the Academie Julien. He remained in France for six formative years before returning to the United States in the early 1930's. Back in New York, he became friendly with Willem de Kooning and Arshile Gorky and was both influenced and inspired by the ferment of ideas that developed around the New York School during the late 1940's and early 1950's. Thall was also an active participant in the WPA New Deal Art Project of New York City between 1935 and 1939 and returned to the Art Students League as a teacher from 1947-9. He exhibited widely and with success including at the Whitney Museum Annuals of 1949 and 1950 and the Leicester Gallery, London, in 1961. Victor Thall's paintings are held in numerous private and public collections including the permanent collections of the Brooklyn Museum and the Newark Museum and the artist is listed in all relevant reference works including Who Was Who in American Art.

'Still Life with Fruit', oil on board (1968), by Juliane Solignac. An engaging yet unusual artwork with vibrant colours, thickly applied with a painting knife. Nonetheless, through the thick paint there is an unfinished quality to the work leaving the impression that the raw canvas - or board in this case - is revealed. Some of the colour seems to have been scored on to the work with an artist's knife leaving lines and creating angles as in a cubist painting. There are layers of paint with no evident brush strokes. One may believe in this instance, Madame Solignac used this technique to create a visual effect which would deliberately have upset traditionalists. Be reminded that the Impressionists were criticised for creating patchy, incomplete works because there were strong notions about the correct way to paint in those days. Picasso once said, 'To finish a work is to kill it.' It is unsure how Mme Solignac would have felt about that. Regardless of this conjecture, the painting is colourful, compelling and rewards the viewer with a curious interest. The work is in fair vintage condition, newly framed with a linen slip. It is signed: 'Julian Solignac 68'.
About the Artist: Juliane Solignac (born 1904). Regrettably, there is not much information available about the artist (including what year she may have died). She is referenced as a resident artist in Montmartre in the 1930s, one of only a handful of women in an otherwise sea of male names. In addition, Solignac is mentioned in both French and Dutch references as a creator of fabrics. These may have been more artistic 'tapis' which are hung on the wall like a painting. A Dutch museum references having one of her designs in their collection. His art has been exhibited in over 70 solo and over 150 group exhibitions throughout North America and Europe and is included in the permanent collections of over 70 museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, National Gallery of Art, and Smithsonian American Art Museum. Clough has received fellowships and grants from the New York State Council on the Arts, National Endowment for the Arts, Adolph Gottlieb Foundation, the Jackson Pollock-Lee Krasner Foundation, and the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation.
Charles Clough was born and raised in Buffalo, New York where he attended Hutchinson Central Technical High School. He then attended Pratt Institute in Brooklyn from 1969-1970 where the two-dimensional design teacher Joseph Phillips, introduced Artforum magazine to him. Clough dropped out and on January 5, 1971 decided that he would devote his life to art. He traded his sculptor's assistant services for studio space with artist Larry W. Griffis Jr., at the Ashford Hollow Foundation's 30 Essex Street former ice-house facility. From 1971-1972 he attended the Ontario College of Art and was introduced to the artists and galleries of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. By 1973 many of the University at Buffalo's and Buffalo State's art professors had rented studios at 30 Essex Street. One of these, Joseph Panone, brought his student, Robert Longo and introduced him to Clough, which resulted in the program of exhibitions and artists' visits which became Hallwalls in 1974. John Woodsum Hatch
1919-1998
During his fifty-year career as an artist, John Woodsum Hatch explored the people, the landscape, and the seascape around him. From his extensive travels to his years in New Hampshire, he developed a body of work that captures a sense of place. Through watercolor, ink and sand, he depicted the grandeur of the White Mountains. The crisp light and distinct topography of the Isles of Shoals and Great Bay Estuary are precisely and clearly documented in acrylic and tempera paintings. His ability to convey the sheer scale and longevity of the mountains and sea, and by comparison the fleeting nature of human life, conveys in a not-so-subtle way that the natural environment is to be revered and preserved.
Hatch took his first teaching job at the University of New Hampshire in 1949, the same year he graduated from Yale University. He never left. A former student, Sam Cady, described his contributions: “He was a wonderful mix of jokester and sage. A teacher who obviously loved people, loved teaching, and had a great gift for it.” After retiring in 1985, he was made an honorary Professor Emeritus at UNH.
Hatch contributed to New Hampshire's cultural life in three areas: his teaching, his art, and his community service. His effectiveness in these three areas can be traced his commitment to give something of himself to help others. Many artists teach by necessity and resent it as a drain on their creative energies but Hatch found his greatest fulfillment from a combination of teaching, making art, and being deeply involved with his community as an art historian and as an environmentalist.
Hatch’s work can be seen in numerous public collections, including: the Addison Gallery of American Art; DeCordova Museum; Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts; State of New Hampshire's Living Treasures Collection, and the Portland Museum of Art in Maine. John Woodsum Hatch, New Hampshire's 1997 Living Treasure Award recipient, died on August 6, 1998, at the age of 78.

Marcel-Louis Baugniet was born in Liege on the 18th March 1896. Painter, theorist, furniture designer, creator of posters, costumes and stage sets, he was one of the main defenders of the notion of Pure Plastic Arts.
Baugniet studied painting at the Royal Academy of Beaux-Arts in Brussels where he mixed with Paul Delvaux, René Magritte, Victor Servrancks and Pierre-Louis Flouquet. He spent some time in Paris and decided that he would become an iconoclastic and avant garde artist. He discovered abstract art with Kandinsky, Kupka, Mondrian and Delaunay and with wonder and stupeur he also learnt of the constructivist movement, which was born in Russia with Malevitch and Lissitsky. In 1922, Baugniet then 26 years old returned to Brussels and married the Russian danser Akarova for whom he designed costumes and stage sets.
M-L Baugniet painted, designed and engraved some superb series of dansers and sportspersons (the « Kaloprosopies »), works entrenched with impeccable lines of constructed art. He painted with contemplation geometric compositions which mixed a grace of colours with the rigour of shapes. Baugniet wrote articles on esthetics and applicated arts in the magasine 7 Arts and edited, with the Dutch architect Van Tonderen, the manifesto of the movement that they called « Le beau, C’est l'utile » (beauty is useful)
Towards the end of the 20s, he separated from Akarova and in 1927 he opened his own Home Decor shop.
With regret Baugniet laid down his paint brushes and threw himself into interior design and the creation of tubular furniture, everyday objects and carpets. He remarried the Russian Olga Reich. He created a circle of ideas that included artists, writers, politicians and intellectuals of all kinds.
