Inspired by the artists of the Modern Art era, including Post-Impressionist Paul Cezanne, Kang visualizes the modern day search for identity in an age where information and images permeate every aspect of contemporary life. His architectural urban scenes are flattened, with everything pressed against the surface of the artwork. At times, multiple views of the same houses are visible, trees and bushes are vaguely alluded to, and the color palette finds a hectic balance. Just as a city operates in a balance of chaos and the sublime, so do the artworks of Kang. The Sublime is an euphoria that affects the deep recesses of one’s consciousness. As is this experience of the sublime, his work is largely abstract. This large colorful horizontal artwork is 38 inches high by 48 inches wide. The sides of this textured, original mixed-media artwork are finished as a continuation of the front and it does not require framing. It is hand-signed and dated by the artist on the back. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included. Tae Ho Kang was born in Seoul, Korea in 1945. He studied at the College of Arts of Hongik University in Seoul, South Korea. He later moved to California to study Fine Art at California State University, where he graduated in 1980. Since then, his artworks have focused on the never-ending quest for home and belonging in a dense urban landscape. About his mixed media artworks, he remarks: “One day, when I was traveling, I was impressed by the beautiful scenery of the city under the sky, with many straight lines, curved lines, and harmonies of different colors, which seemed to be a magnificent orchestral performance. The beauty of this urban landscape gave me a deep impression and great change began to take place in my work. I wanted to be a molecule in this huge space. I have to find a house of my heart to be molecule. Where is the house I live in? What is my identity? This question has begun to arise. I am on a long journey to find my own house.” His mixed media collage artworks have been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions as well as international art fairs throughout the US and in Korea. Kang's work has also been featured in Television and Film productions, including Criminal Minds, NCIS Los Angeles, Unforgettable, The Mindy Project, The Great Indoors, and American Housewife. His artworks have been exhibited and acquired by private collectors around the world. "My work principally consists of deeply abstracted figure compositions--intuitive constructions that begin with random marks establishing larger masses of torsos, heads, and limbs in an undefined setting. The emphasis is almost purely on intuition. The figures are born of their surrounding environment, emerging only partially and fugitively from the layers of pigment. A narrative is evident but never overt. A crown, a shield, a boat, a wheel. Though the subject has recently coalesced around my reading of Dante and Shakespeare, the settings remain extremely vague- a beach, an interior, a woodland. The paintings are, in the end, meditations on the relationship between the protagonists in a wordless drama. In my paintings, I use a cold wax medium combined with dry pigments, oil paint, and embedded fragments of burlap. The surfaces eventually build up into a dense, rugged terrain." --Thaddeus Radell

Still Life is a superb original oil painting on panel, realized by the Italian artist Vincenzino Volò, best-known as Vincenzino dei Fiori (Rémondans, 1620-Milan, 1671) around 1640-1660. Original Title: Natura morta di fiori entro vasi biansati (Still life of Bouquet in two-handled vases). On the back of the panel, two labels are glued "da Milano", "A Piacenza", ("from Milan" "to Piacenza"). The labels indicate a transfer of the artwork, perhaps in the first half of the twentieth century, from Piacenza to Milan. While instead the style and technique make us understand the artwork was commissioned or created in the Milan of Federico Borromeo, archbishop of Milan from1595 to 1630. The author of the painting can be identified in the person of Vincenzo Volò, a talented artist who fell into oblivion, recently rediscovered and appreciated. Founder of the Vincenzini family, he was born in Franche-Comté in 1620 (in the past its birth was erroneously fixed to 1606). In the mid-forties of the seventeenth century he arrived to Milan, and held a leading artistic role: he was the founder of a family workshop that imposed his style and strongly influenced Milanese collecting with his still lifes and influenced generations and generations of painters. Vincenzino also was the first painter of still life to work on the Bella Island for Vitaliano VI Borromeo and collaborated with well-known figure painters such as Francesco Cairo, Scaramuccia, Nuvolone and Fumagalli. As regards the style, the archaic tendency of Lombard painting of still life from the early decades of the seventeenth century is clearly evident, looking at primitivism and the happy schematization of the composition of the artwork. The dating of this artwork could be fixed around the first half of the seventeenth century because it is confirmed by the type of support, a wooden panel, always used by Vincenzino. As for the subject, Volò generally painted bouquets of flowers in two-handled vases placed on transversal planes seen from the front. It is possible to compare this work with other Dei Fiori's artworks: the pair of Flower Vases...

"Man Overboard" is an oil painting with chalk and graphite on wood panel, and measures 16" high by 12" wide. It is finished with a clear resin across the surface, lending the artwork a particular warmth and liquidity that is rare and lovely to behold. Typical of the artist, the painting is a mystery despite its apparent simplicity – a woman wearing part of her bikini stretches out beside a pool or body of water, while another figure hovers nearby. The title Man Overboard would suggest the woman's pose and partial nudity have completely derailed the man's intentions – perhaps driven him to distraction. Note the restrained color palette, the subtle toning of the wood surface, the bodies rendered and bodies suggested. The surface is very interesting – drawn lines and painterly brushstrokes to be sure, but also the toned wood coming through as color and texture. All of it held, as if in time, by the resin layer acting as a lens to both transmit this picture and admit light to the picture. A true artifact. From Will Hudson...
