Beautiful mid-1980's hand colored Art Deco style lithograph by Southern California artist John Luke Eastman (American, b.1929). In this 1984 version of Eastman's "Three Ribbon Heads", a delicate flowing line drawing of three consecutive women's faces in profile are framed by ribbons in a circular composition. As in many of the artist's works, Eastman captions the piece with the following phrase: " In this life we have three lasting qualities...faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of them is love."
Hand signed and dated in pencil lower right, "John L. Eastman 84" artists proof.
Displayed in a light grey mat and new art deco-style giltwood frame.

Figure and Phallus: erotic nude drawing of woman in heels in rainbow of colors

This etching features a nude woman in high heels. Whipping her head to the left, she gazes intently past the viewer through a wild tangle of tresses. A sunhat with a bow nearly floats off her head, a tongue-in-cheek nod to modesty. Taking a wide stance, she straddles a comically large phallus, which springs up eagerly from the ground like a plant. Unusually, this etching was drawn directly onto the plate from the artist’s imagination and not from a life model. This spontaneity is visible around the woman’s bust and arms, where Oldenburg sketched several variations of her anatomy, giving the impression of a figure in movement. Beside her left breast, Oldenburg extends this halo of lines by cheekily doodling a small, floating phallus.

Etching in one color on white, thick, slightly textured Wookey Hole handmade paper watermarked with the artist’s signature. Signed by the artist and dated 1975 lower right in pencil. Flea, the Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist once said of Pettibon's Black Flag illustrations and iconic logo: "Before I knew what Black Flag was I remember walking around Hollywood and seeing Raymond's flyers and being like, 'What the fuck is that?'… Those flyers made me feel like something is going on and it's romantic and it's mysterious and it's heavy and I don't know what it is but I wanna know."
About Raymond Pettibon (Americanb. 1957)
Raymond Pettibon is a contemporary American artist known for his stylized ink drawings combining images and text. His inventive narratives blend historical content with consumer culture to yield incisive critiques of contemporary society. “I was making my work as transparent as possible, without equivocations, without calling attention to itself, without apology,” he explained. “There's a lot of conventions in the art world that are not to be transgressed, but my economy of means doesn't abide by those strictures.” Born Raymond Ginn on June 16, 1957 in Tucson, AZ, the artist is self-taught, but cites drawings by William Blake, Edward Hopper, Francisco Goya, and John Sloan as instructive to his practice. Deriving inspiration from comics, cartoons, and other pop culture iconography, Pettibon began designing album covers and ephemera for his brother’s band Black Flag in the mid-1970s. ITZHAK TARKAY (1935-2012) Itzhak Tarkay has achieved international recognition as a leading representative of figurative artists. The inspiration for his work clearly lies with French Impressionism, particularly the paintings of Matisse and the drawing style of Toulouse-Lautrec. He drew upon the history of art to create many of his compositions, designing a kind of visual poetry from the aura of his cafes and intimate settings. His rich tapestry of form and color is achieved through the use of painting many colors laid over one another to create texture and transparency. Tarkay is considered one of the most influential artists of the early 21st century and has inspired dozens of artists throughout the world with his contemplative depiction of the female figure.

Winslow Homer created this etching entitled “MENDING THE TEARS” in 1888. This is a lifetime impression signed by Homer and printed by the famous New York etcher George W. H. Ritchie.
This piece is signed in pencil “Winslow Homer, N.A.” in the lower left above the etched remarque of an anchor. Etched above the image (top left) is “Copyright, 1888 by Winslow Homer N.Y.” and (top right) “G. W. H. Ritchie Imp.” Also etched in the plate (lower right) “Winslow Homer Sc.” ). The printed image size 15.25 x 21.5" (38.8 x 54.5 cm) plus margins – printed on Japan paper. This item is in very good condition and framed in 2.25 inch scooped molding finished in gold leaf with a rag stock bevel (mat edge) wrapped in metal leaf and rag stock top mat wrapped in silk. Glazed in TruVue Museum Glass.
