Signed, titled, and numbered from the edition of 15. Large multi-layer cake with sprinkles. While the images have some resemblance to traditional Japanese Ukiyo-e prints, their sense of whimsy, satire and irony relate more closely to contemporary life and western sensibilities. Young women and their relationships to shoes, food, and fashion provide much of Hiratsuka’s subject matter. Another group of his prints focus on landscape, flowers, and floral patterns.
Hiratsuka’s graphic work has been exhibited in the Americas, Europe and Asia. He has received numerous awards in international competitions. During the last four years he has had 14 solo shows in the United States, and international solo shows in Gabrovo, Bulgaria, Munich, Germany and Geneva, Switzerland.

I've made a few Paint it Black themed images and this letterpress print was made especially for my New Clear Power show at AMUSEUM in Munich, Germany.
Unfortunately, the topic remains in need of urgent action! In addition to referencing a great Rolling Stones song, Paint it Black is about oil dictating too much of our energy and foreign policy. Imagine if all the money spent on wars and strategic interests in the Middle East went to developing green energy alternatives. Instead, our government subsidizes the highly profitable oil and gas industries for $40 billion annually because no politician wants the blame for rising gas prices. Newsflash: we are still paying more for gas, whether it's at the pump or through our taxes. The need for gas will remain, but we must invest in sustainable energy alternatives as we transition off the finite supply of fossil fuels that are also terrible for CO2 emissions. "Shepard Fairey"

There is a time of year when dandelions abound in the local fields. I often see a red tractor ploughing late crops and this view is inspired by a fine day for dandelions. Ploughings give a sense of direction in cantrast with the dandelion clocks.
Rob Barnes, artist, is available for sale online and in our art gallery at Wychwood Art. Rob Barnes studied painting and printmaking at Hull College of Art and London University in the early 1960s. He taught etching, screen-printing, lino and related surface printmaking at Keswick Hall College in Norfolk. He later moved to the University of East Anglia, Norwich where he continued teaching in the School of Education until 2006. Presently he divides his time between printmaking and his other passion, playing the violin in local orchestras and for choral performances. Soft-ground etching with hand coloring in black gouache on grey BFK Rives mould made paper. Signed by the artist, dated 79, and numbered 59/100 lower center in red crayon. Printed from the same plate as 'Thinking Aloud in the Museum of Modern Art', this print was previously titled "Not Quite Alone in the Museum of Modern Art," suggesting an erotic dalliance in the museum.
This print depicts an abstracted scene, perhaps a window and a door, in Hodgkin's signature painterly style. The expressive mark-making in this print is an example of the artist’s movement in the late 70s towards pronounced gestures. Beside bold black strokes, his fingerprints form areas of texture. Always seeking greater richness in his prints, Hodgkin layered ink and hand coloring in this print, rendering each print in the edition unique.
Howard Hodgkin was introduced to the etching technique used in 'All Alone in the Museum of Modern Art' at Petersburg Press, where this print was produced and where he would become a long-time collaborator. This technique allowed him to work fluidly and spontaneously, creating the moody interior scenes that mark Hodgkin’s work from the late 70s and early 80s.
