Very good conditions.
The first artwork represents an old female figure with cards and a young girl listening to her. In the center of the composition there is a man with a headgear that is listening to the response too. In the second etching, L'Horoscope Realisé, we see the realization of the response: the young girl stays with a baby and the old city is looking the scene; the man is in the center of the composition and shows the scene to the old lady.
Paul Edme LeRat (Paris, 1849 - Paris, 1892) a French etcher noted for his interpretations of other artists paintings into etchings and engravings which were often used for book illustrations. He studied under Lecoq de Boisbaldran and L. Gaucherel and first exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1869. Today many museums and libraries include his works in their catalogs.

Louis Prang (March 12, 1824 – September 14, 1909) was an American printer, lithographer, publisher, and Georgist. He is sometimes known as the "father of the American Christmas card".
Prang's early activities in the US publishing architectural books and making leather goods were not very successful, and he began to make wood engravings for illustrations in books. In 1851 he worked for Frank Leslie, art director for Gleason's Pictorial Drawing-Room Companion, and later with John Andrew. In 1851, he married Rosa Gerber, a Swiss woman he had met in Paris in 1846.

Born in Naumburg, Germany, he was schooled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kassel and at the Stadel Art Institute in Frankfurt am Main. He participated in the political upheavals of 1848 and was forced to leave his country after the movement was crushed becoming one of the many talented German "forty-eighters" to begin life anew in America.
From a tiny print shop in New York City, Bien built a hugely successful business. He received numerous awards for the maps he engraved for the Pacific Railroad surveys, for several decennial census reports and for many US Geological Survey atlases and military field maps. He was also the first president of the National Lithographers' Association.
Geological atlases were elemental in the development of states in both population and commerce. Here is where Bien shines with comprehensive understanding of science and his unparelled technique in printing. Among the most collectible of historic maps, these surveys provided landmark research in building a nation.
Bien's second magnum opus was his chromolithographic edition of John James Audubon's The Birds of America. Through the new medium of chromolithography Bien was commissioned both to reproduce the quality of Havell's aquatints and to capture the subtlety of Audubon's colors. The ambitious project was never completed. Some historians blame the Civil War while other suggest financial cheating, but probably it was the death of Audubon that terminated Bien's work.

Three judges can be found on the second floor of the renovated Jackson County Truman Courthouse in Independence.
That wouldn't be unusual, except for the way the judges gaze upon visitors — steady, unmoving and frozen on canvas.
Turns out all three judges sat for 19th century Missouri artist George Caleb Bingham. Now their portraits hang on a wall of the new Jackson County Museum of Art, opening Saturday in the recently renovated courthouse, not far from the offices of the county's assessments and collections departments.
Many of the 27 Bingham artworks displayed are owned by Ken McClain, Independence lawyer and developer.
"Bingham is recognized as a national treasure, but his Jackson County roots are not focused on that frequently," McClain said of the artist, who maintained a studio in his Independence home, later served as a Kansas City police commissioner and is buried in Union Cemetery.
"I thought the courthouse would be an appropriate place for a museum dedicated to him."
Jackson County Executive Mike Sanders worked with McClain to set aside during courthouse renovations several second-floor rooms that have been transformed into a gallery.
Ceiling-mounted pendant lamps that recall the courthouse's 1933 renovation now hang alongside track lighting. Long blinds have been installed in the building's tall window frames to protect the paintings, some of them about 150 years old.
"Ken's vision has moved the courthouse renovation from a great project to an incredible one, increasing its value exponentially," Sanders said. "Visitors will come here from all over the country."
The Bingham artworks make up the principal holdings of the nonprofit museum, which will be administered by its own board of directors. Other works are on loan from the State Historical Society of Missouri and the Jackson County Historical Society.
McClain hopes that future acquisitions, as well as other loaned artworks, can be rotated through the holdings.
