R.B. Kitaj "The Jerwish Question"
Located in Surfside, FL
Initialled signed in pencil From R. B. Kitaj, In Our Time: Covers for a Small Library After the Life for the Most Part, screenprint 1969 edition of 150 photo screenprint. A cover of the infamous Henry Ford book from the Dearborn Independent "The Jewish Question". Printed by Kelpra Studio, London, published by Marlborough AG, Schellenberg, Florida. The Jewish Museum. a cover related to Russian Soviet cinema and film. Stylistically, these are hybrid works, influenced by Pop art and the modernist tradition of the Readymade, a work of art created when a mundane found object is named as an artwork and set in an art context. This avant-garde concept was originally invented by the Dada master Marcel Duchamp early in the twentieth century. In the 1960s it received renewed attention at a time when artistic norms were again being questioned. Reacting to Andy Warhol’s Pop imagery, Kitaj poignantly called his repurposed book covers “his soup can, his Liz Taylor.” The blatant use of images taken directly from commercial sources situates In Our Time as a precursor of appropriation art. In turning book covers into works of art, Kitaj is offering fragments of a history of knowledge, in which the content of each volume is at once mysterious and absent. Coming from this passionate bibliophile, the series is nothing less than an intellectual self-portrait. R.B. Kitaj, in full Ronald Brooks Kitaj . Ron Kitaj...

His journey into the world of art began with ceramics, studying at the renowned Sèvres School. However, the tumultuous events of World War I redirected his path. In 1914, Boucher was sent to the frontlines, where he experienced captivity as a prisoner of war. It was during this trying period that he discovered his innate talent for drawing. Initially recognized for his caricatures in the humorous weekly magazine he eventually ventured into designing posters and flyers, most notably for Air France. One of Boucher's most captivating creations is his 1948 poster...

“Venice”
Located in Southampton, NY
Description: People have collected autographs of notables for hundreds of years. The desire to have a personal memento from a famous and or important artist drives the collecting field. The top rung of the ladder, in terms of popularity, is a relatively small group of artists called ‘icons’. These are people who’s names and images stay with us, appearing with regularity in our culture. The 20th Century Masters such as Chagall, Picasso, Matisse, Miro, Dali and more recently, Warhol fit this description. The renowned French printer, Fernand Mourlot, printed many of the original posters for the most important artists of the day. In 1959 the studio printed the series Affiches Originales for collectors. They are reduced lithographic versions of the original posters created by the contemporary masters, Picasso, Chagall, Braque, Matisse, Miro, Leger, and Dufy. This announcement was for an Easter exhibition in the city of Vence. This very rare and desirable 1959 Mourlot poster, of which only 1500 were printed and only a handful known to have been signed, has been signed in pencil by the artist, Marc Chagall. The original larger poster...
