Flyer / handbill for gig by Black Flag, Misfits, Vandals featuring artwork by Pettibon. Post-marked 1983 on verso; rare as such given the SST stamp on verso (Black Flag's record label). Flea, the Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist once said of Pettibon's Black Flag illustrations and iconic logo: "Before I knew what Black Flag was I remember walking around Hollywood and seeing Raymond's flyers and being like, 'What the fuck is that?'
Those flyers made me feel like something is going on and it's romantic and it's mysterious and it's heavy and I don't know what it is but I wanna know." About Raymond Pettibon (Americanb. 1957) Raymond Pettibon is a contemporary American artist known for his stylized ink drawings combining images and text. His inventive narratives blend historical content with consumer culture to yield incisive critiques of contemporary society. “I was making my work as transparent as possible, without equivocations, without calling attention to itself, without apology,” he explained. “There's a lot of conventions in the art world that are not to be transgressed, but my economy of means doesn't abide by those strictures.” Born Raymond Ginn on June 16, 1957 in Tucson, AZ, the artist is self-taught, but cites drawings by William Blake, Edward Hopper, Francisco Goya, and John Sloan as instructive to his practice. Deriving inspiration from comics, cartoons, and other pop culture iconography, Pettibon began designing album covers and ephemera for his brother’s band Black Flag in the mid-1970s. He went on to produce cover art for Sonic Youth, the Minutemen...

Andy Warhol's original poster for the 1982 film "Querelle" - Erotic - Cinema
Located in PARIS, FR
Andy Warhol's original poster for the 1982 film "Querelle" is a fascinating fusion of two artistic worlds: cinema and pop culture art. Directed by German filmmaker Rainer Werner Fassbinder, the film is based on Jean Genet's novel of the same name, exploring themes of desire, sexuality and mystery. Warhol, a celebrated figure of the Pop Art movement, brought his unique style to this iconic poster. Using vivid colors and striking contrasts, the poster highlights key elements of the film, including the unsettling sensuality of the main character, Querelle, played by Brad Davis. Warhol's association with the film gave a new artistic dimension to film promotion...

Original Rome Fly TWA Jets vintage American travel poster
Located in Spokane, WA
Original Rome Fly TWA Jets vintage travel poster. Conservation linen backed in excellent condition, ready to frame. This is the earlier edition of the image Before ‘up up and away’! TWA (Trans World Airlines) was formed in 1924 as Transcontinental & Western Air. The airline's first route was from New York to Los Angeles, followed by multiple National routes. The airline expanded to serve Europe, the Middle East, and Asia after WWII when the company was under Howard Hughes's owner's control from 1939 until 1961. Hughes was a dominant force in expanding and promoting his company's routes. The economy was vastly improving, and travel by air for business and pleasure increased, too. Posters were a crucial element in promoting this form of travel and TWA. The airline started a decline in the 1970s, ending in a third bankruptcy that caused its acquisition by American Airlines in 2001. The airline operated in 132 destinations worldwide and had a fleet size of 190. This Rome poster was created by the gifted American artist David Klein (1918 -2005), and depicts a member of the Pontifical Swiss Guard in the center wearing the iconic yellow, blue, and red uniform. The Guard is playing a drum that has the pontifical emblem. In the background, we see a representation of the ancient Roman Coliseum and the Baroque...

Original Affiches Paul Mohr Compagnie Nationale des Papers 1932 vintage poster
Located in Spokane, WA
Original small format poster Affiches Paul Mohr, 1932. Archival linen backed in excellent condition, ready to frame. The rare Paul Mohr posters are incredibly elusive; many have had only one remaining known copy survive. Printing method: Helio-Typo or Typelo. Before television, beautiful lithographs adorn the streets and walls of Paris and other European cities. Art for the street, art for the public. Weather and rain would destroy these works of art by renowned artists, only to be replaced. The artist: Paul Gustave Mohr, a French Avant-garde poster designer from the Art Deco period was born Sept. 4, 1890 in Ham, France and died on April 13, 1959 in Paris. He lived most of his life in Paris, and then settled in the small town of Asnieres, France, just outside of Paris. He attended the Sorbonne University, as well as several art schools. During World War I, he was a pilot in the French Army from 1914-1917. Paul Mohr married Jeanne Levy in 1917 and they had three daughters: Helene, Genevieve, and Jacqueline. As an artist, he designed advertising posters from 1920 to 1940. His posters advertised Wonder cycles, Dainty cycles, Lustucru pasta, Banania sugar, Bremsit brakes, Champigneulles beer, L'Union beer, Dubonnet wine, as well as shoes and ham. This information was provided to me by my mother, Helene Mohr Breitenbucher, who was his eldest daughter. Carol Schuler (granddaughter) Advertising posters, the affiches of Paul Mohr. This is an original advertising poster for the affiches (posters) created by the master artist Paul Mohr (1890-1959). Archival linen backed in very good condition. No stains, no tears, no paper loss. Grade A condition. Ready to frame. Compagnie Nationale des Papier, Paris. The crowd on the street looks up in amazement at the art deco-style images that the artist created.
