Like Riding a Bike
Located in Greenwich, CT
Edition of 31 American, b. 1961 Jane DeDecker’s energetic and dynamic bronze sculptures serve as a reflection of her own life experiences and those of her closely-knit family. Her twelve nieces and nephews are the primary source of her inspiration, though DeDecker’s sculptures are not portraits. In fact, her loose style leaves her viewers with room for interpretation, so as to see their own lives within her sculptures. This imprecision, combined with her unique ability to capture specific moments to which each viewer can relate on a personal level, regardless of age, give DeDecker’s work a timeless quality that spans generations. DeDecker began her artistic training as a painter at the University of Northern Colorado, until a professor, noticing her joy in the portrayal of shapes and forms, suggested she try her hand at sculpture. Taking his advice, DeDecker went on to study at Gobelins School of Tapestry in Paris, and in returning to Colorado, spent five years as master craftsman to the notable bronze sculptor George Lundeen. DeDecker is a Fellow of the National Sculpture Society and has gone on to receive copious awards, such as the Critics Choice Award from the Kimball Art Museum, Fort Worth, TX. Major installations of DeDecker’s sculptures are located at the Presidential Library in Washington, DC; the Mayo Clinic...

Krishna, Hindu God, Bronze Sculpture, Indian Artist K.S. Radhakrishnan"In Stock"
Located in Kolkata, West Bengal
K.S. Radhakrishnan - Krishna - HT : 13 x W : 10 x CIR : 20 inches Bronze Sculpture. Krishna : Figurative sculpture of Hindu God by great Modern Indian Artist K.S. Radhakrishnan who has successfully brought about a defenitive resurgence in Indian sculpture. Style : K.S Radhakrishnan is one of the most notable among the new generation of sculptors. Like many of his contempories he is a figurative sculptor, but his preference for modelling and bronze casting sets him apart from the rest of them. Recharging age old sculptural processes with a new sensibility, thus is the singular challenge he brings to modern Indian sculpture. And this makes him a modernist - who approaches his work with discernible ambition and considerable aplomb while steering clear of brinkmanship. Radhakrishnan's works often drawn from the emotions and myths of the Hindu gods, such as Shiva, Kali and Radha. His sculptures are often larger than life-sized; placed in the outdoors, they evoke a superhuman atmosphere. Over the years, Radhakrishnan has experienced with alternate sculpting mediums, working in molten bronze, beeswax and Plaster of Paris. The physical process of working with the materials becomes a performance in itself. The sculpture is the product of a tactile engagement with his medium. With celebration of sensuality as one of its running themes, his works is at once both intimate and universal in its appeal. A personal commemorative sculpture, with a scale and presence that holds well in natural settings, his work has found permanent home in a number of public collections all over the world. 'Scratching Bird' Shona stone sculpture signed by Chenjerai Chiripanyanga
Located in Milwaukee, WI
'Scratching Bird' is an original opal serpentine stone sculpture signed by the contemporary Zimbabwean artist Chenjerai Chiripanyanga. The artist presents in this sculpture a highly abstracted figure of a bird, the long beak and eye of which emerges shining and polished from within the rough-hewn surface of the stone. Though Chiripanyanga is trained in the Shona stone carving tradition, the way that the bird seems to be revealed out of the stone reminds of the "unfinished" sculptures of Michelangelo...

'Bird' original stone Shona sculpture by Samuel Tichafa Masakwa
Located in Milwaukee, WI
'Bird' is an original opal serpentine sculpture by the Zimbabwean artist Samuel Tichafa Masakwa. Trained in the Shona stone carving tradition, the artists here presents an elegantly abstracted water fowl: above the egg-shaped form of the body, the bird's long neck curls outward forming a loop. Such abstracted forms recall traditional African sculpture as well as the work of modern masters like Constantin Brancusi who looked to non-Western sources for inspiration. opal serpentine stone 31.5 x 12 x 11 inches not signed 140 lbs Overall good condition; some scratching Samuel Tichafa Masakwa was born in 1971 on the 15th of September, the first born of nine siblings. He was educated at Zengeza No. Five Primary School and later, Zengeza Four High School. Out of keen interest, he started sculpting at a tender age of fourteen. His cousins were accomplished sculptors, Nicholas Mukomberanwa and Albert Nathan Mambura whose brotherly love nurtured the interest in him to greater heights. During Samuel's school holidays, Albert Mamvura shaped his pending career as an artist by engaging him as his assistant. In 1991 he completed his 'O' levels and began sculpting full-time at Albert's workshop. As an apprentice he learned how to carve Shona abstracts, figures and heads. While he was working with Nicholas Mukomberanwa he had the chance to learn how to clean hidden angles on hard stones like springstone, cobalt, serpentine and the original green opal. In 1996 his cousins advised him to be independent in order to explore the new avenues he was bringing into the field. He discovered he did not have his own trade mark so he went to yet another accomplished artist, Joe Mutasa...

"Protected Spirits, " a Carved Opal signed by Picket Mazhindu Bumhira
Located in Milwaukee, WI
"Protected Spirits" is a sculpture carved from Opal stone signed Picket, who is part of the Shona tribe in Zimbabwe. It depicts two abstracted figures, presumably spirits, seeming to float upwards. 38 1/2" x 13 1/2" x 7 1/4" Picket Mazhindu Bumhira was born 1968 in the Seke communal lands about 5 km. from Harare, Zimbabwe. Picket had a passion for art from childhood and during his school days he loved drawing and painting. He was very inspired by sculpture of the late John Takawira, one of Zimbabwe's first generation of Shona sculptors, whom he met when Picket went to Chapungu. They then agreed to work together. Later he started to sculpt on his own. Some of his works made the headlines in the newspapers, including "Spirit of Love," which was exhibited in Victoria Falls during Arts Gala. He exhibited in the UK and in Germany. He was among the sculptors who went to China for an exhibition at the Poverty Reduction Summit. Picket likes working on springstone and opal and especially enjoys making abstracts. Shona artists and crafts people have been working in different media for generations. These include paintings, pottery, basket ware, wood carvings, and sculpture done in metal as well as the stone carvings. While there is not a long standing tradition of sculpture in what is now Zimbabwe (formerly Southern Rhodesia), stone carvings dating from the 15th century were seen in Great Zimbabwe, an excavated temple near Bulawayo. Most of the artifacts from this location have been moved to museums in Cape Town, South Africa or London. It is generally agreed that Zimbabwean stone sculpture...

'Family' original signed Shona stone sculpture by Wonder Mazhindu Bumhira
Located in Milwaukee, WI
'Family' is an original stone sculpture signed by Zimbabwean artist Wonder Mazhindu Bumhira. The composition is an example of the family groupings, with each figure arranged as though they were a flower in a bouquet, that are so desired from Shona sculptors. Though the figures are ambiguous and stylized, the figures are arranged using a hierarchy of scale: the matriarch (perhaps a grandmother) towers over the other members of her family, with her children and grandchildren below. Thusly, sculptures like this present a vision of family structure and unity. opal stone (serpentine) 36 x 13.5 x 11 inches signed 'W. Maz' along base Overall good condition. 'Fish Totem' original signed stone Shona sculpture by Obert Mukumbi
Located in Milwaukee, WI
'Fish Totem' is an original springstone sculpture by the Zimbabwean artist Obert Mukumbi. The sculpture presents an interactive and playful combination of subjects, both of which are beloved themes in the Shona tradition. As one faces the sculpture, they are presented at first with a pair of figures: an adult and child, one towering above the other. Surrounding them like a shawl is a mandorla-form, which emphasizes their tall upward posture and movement. This pair of figures emphasizes close relationships and family ties. As one walks around the sculpture, however, the almond shape transforms into the body of a boldly striped fish. This duality of human and animal brings mysticism and transformation to the sculpture and suggests the power and vitality of nature in sustenance and spirit. springstone signed "Obert Mukumbi" along bottom edge 34.5 x 7 x 12 inches concrete base included at buyer request hole drilled into bottom to accommodate steel support rod Overall excellent condition with no signs of wear or damage. Obert Mukumbi was born on February 11, 1974 in the village of Dengu in Bindura, some 86 kilometers north east of Harare, Zimbabwe, where he likewise completed his O-levels in school.
