A Garniture de Chemineé in the Louis XVI taste By Arnold & Lewis (late Simmons) The mantle clock, and its two matched vases, are constructed in jewelled 'Sèvres' style porcelain, hand and polychrome decorated, with gilt highlights and finely gilt bronze. The clock, rising from toupie feet, supports a rectangular base frame with rounded ends, set with cast stiff leaf decoration, and having inset Roi de Bleu and gilt work panels; over, the circular porcelain dial, signed by the maker (qv) has Roman numerals and blued steel hands, and is set over a central porcelain panel with a bucolic scene, and flanked by elliptical female portraits; the ends are curved and conformingly polychrome and gilt decorated; the whole is surmounted by a decorated twin handled urn, having a pine cone finial, set on an addorsed acanthi gilt bronze base. An extremely rare pair of Regency cast-iron sarcophagus shaped strong boxes. Regency, circa 1820 Painted to simulate palisander wood and with parcel-gilt, the cavetto-moulded hinged lids cast with flower sprays above foliate-cast bands over front panels relieved with river gods within canted corners cast with standing muses, the sides with lion mask and ring handles over leafy aprons on massive lion’s paw feet; the Brahmah type lock stamped “T. Davis from London” and impressed with the Royal Crown. These extraordinary pieces are modelled on Regency wine coolers. The forms are classic Greco-Roman revival with the boat-hook handles, mythic figures and the overall sarcophagus pattern. You would struggle to find one let alone a pair. Good items for any collection. Research on going into these strong boxes but we have found possible information on the lock stamped Davis….(historyoflocks ) The relationship of King George III and George Davis of Windsor, who was locksmith in ordinary to His Majesty. Davis, in 1799, invented and patented a unique style of lock, which was also beautifully engraved with a warning not to make duplicate keys. Sensitive government secrets always demanded, then as today, locks that were state of the art. Davis locks ended up on government dispatch boxes...

This exceptional antique Edwardian 9ct rose gold cigarette case has a plain rectangular form with rounded corners. This antique case has a subtly curved form proffering a comfortable fit in the majority of pockets. The anterior cover is ornamented with an impressive enamel panel depicting four jockeys riding horses in a race, with stands full of spectators in the background. The enamel panel is further embellished with the caption 'Cambridgeshire 1902'. Fine Georgian marble bust of Major General Montagu-Roger Burgoyne, the 8th baronet of Sutton, Signed G. Garrard. Sculp, 1818. Sir Montagu-Roger Burgoyne, eighth baronet (d. 1817), army officer, was, like his father, a cavalry officer who rose to the rank of major-general. He entered the army as cornet in the Scots Greys in 1789, and in 1795 became lieutenant-colonel ofthe 32nd light dragoon guards. He was afterwards an inspecting field officer of yeomanry and volunteer corps. On 1 November 1791 he married Catherine (1772/3?1855), daughter of John Burton of Owlerton, Yorkshire; they had three sons and three daughters. Burgoyne died at his mother's house on Oxford Street, London, on 11 August 1817, whereupon the baronetcy passed to his eldest son, John-Montagu Burgoyne George Garrard ARA (31 May 1760 – 8 October 1826) was an English animal, landscape and portrait painter, modeller, sculptor, engraver and printmaker. He played a major role in lobbying Parliament to introduce legislation to protect the copyright of works by modellers of animal and human figures. This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver posy holder has a conical shaped form onto three legs. The surface of the holder has a frosted finish and is embellished with bright cut engraved Greek Key fret band ornamentation in addition to stylized leaf motifs. The body is further ornamented with an applied knop encircled with bead ornamentation flanked with a scalloped border and collet set cabochon turquoises. The upper portion of this impressive example of Victorian silverware is encompassed with a protruding undulating band accented with further collet set turquoise alternating with a swagged chain articulating from ring loops.
