Honora Berg (American, 1897-1985) was an Abstract Expressionist and Bay Area Figurative School artist who studied at the San Francisco Art Institute with David Park, Elmer Bischoff and James Budd Dixon. Berg's friend Edith Truesdell — David Park's aunt — suggested a move to California in 1951 to study under Park. She exhibited at the 25th Annual Drawing, Print and Sculpture Exhibition at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, 1961.

Both the chair and the model are made out of many small brushstrokes of varying colors, creating a pointillist feel. Honora Berg also painted and portrait of Manuel Neri (Joan's Husband) which we acquired also from the Larry Miller Estate.

Mid-century American impressionist painting of a woman by American artist Frederick "Fred" Yost (American/Swiss, 1888-1968). He studied: at Mt. The painting gleans much form his studies with John Sloan and Robert Henri in the French post-impressionist style.

About Fred's life: by Hal Fry of the Herald
“Fred Does Whatever He Likes” was a title given to a biography
written about Fred Yost by Hal Fry of the Herald. The following is
taken directly from this column: “Fred Yost’s living style is like his
painting style. He has fun with it. Fred John Yost was born in
Switzerland, he’ sure, on November 6, 1889, he thinks.
His father John brought the family to his country when Fred was
about a year old—first to New York and later to
Canton, Sebring and finally Alliance, where Yost Sr.
loaded freight for a railroad. Fred like drawing and painting
so far back he can’t remember how or when it started—it was
always that way. But through the public schools in Alliance
he didn’t think of this as a career possibility. He wanted to be a
newspaperman. He worked his way through Mt. Union College,
finishing, he thinks, about 1912. Then he beat it for New York and
after kicking around for a time got a job as a proofreader for the
Wall Street Journal. He combined this and art school until
World War I took him into the Army. In infantry, field artillery and
ordnance duties he served with the 27th New York Division
through St. Mihiel and the Argonne and the rest—in the process
getting his hearing clobbered by blasts from his outfit’s own guns.
Coming out a Sergeant in 1919, he went back to the
Wall Street Journal briefly—then caught on as a staff artist for the
(New York) Herald. For several years, when he felt like it,
Yost would take a bus to the Mexican border and switch to a
Mexican bus to carry him way down south, then make it any way
he could to the places he wanted to see. On these trips he
virtually becomes a peon, disappearing totally from those who
know him—living with, like and clearly thoroughly liked by the
people among whom he moves.” Yost was a graduate of the
Art Students League and past president of the Ohio Watercolor

William Fisher (1891 - 1985)
William Fisher was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1891. He studied at the Brooklyn Institute of Art and Science and at Pratt Institute. Following service as an ambulance driver in WWI, he remained in Europe after the war and studied painting in Rome, Italy for one year. Upon his return from Rome, to New Jersey, he pursued his painting and began to teach small art classes.
In the 1920's Fisher became a successful illustrator. His work appeared in Saturday Evening Post, Mc Calls, Harpers and other popular magazines. He later did pen and ink sketches for the Villager, a weekly Greenwich Village newspaper. Microfilmed pages of the Villager are preserved in New York University's Washington Square Library. His sketches also appeared on the cover of the Gotham Guide, which was sold Fridays at news stands in Manhattan.
In partnership with Margaret Kilburn, an artist and crafts person, Fisher opened an art gallery and school at 33 West 8th St in NYC during the 1930s. They also opened a summer art gallery and school in 1949 in Kennebunkport, Maine, which ran for many years, and, after the NY gallery closed (around 1952), they made a full time commitment to living and working in Kennebunkport, Maine.
Fisher was the recipient of over 100 awards. His work was widely exhibited in Philadelphia, Pa., Montclair, Trenton, and Newark, NJ, the Currier Gallery in New Hampshire and the Brick Store Museum in Kennebunk, Maine.
William Fisher and Margaret Kilburn were familiar and beloved figures in Kennebunkport. They taught generations of local children, and they participated in numerous exhibits with other artists, both in the Kennebunkport area and throughout Maine. Mr Fisher always insisted on marching in the local Memorial Day parade, until he was well in his 90's, because he didn't want to ride in a car provided for older veterans. Many homes in the Kennebunks have his works, including members of the Bush family, and they were purchased by numerous out of state and Canadian summer visitors. There are several examples of his works in the Kennebunkport Town Offices and in local churches.

Gorgeous plein air landscape of Santa Cruz and Monterey Bay by Brian Rounds (American, b. 1968). Grey-purple clouds have rolled in over Santa Cruz around sunset, casting shadows and creating highlights in the city. Streaks of light shine through the clouds, and there is a yellow glow at the edge of the water in the distance. This piece is completed in a loose, abstracted style that captures the rapidly changing scenery.
Signed and dated by the artist on verso.
Unframed, but the artist has painted the edges black to allow for a frame-less display.

Brian Rounds (American, b. 1968) is an award-winning artist who grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and is now based out of Santa Cruz, California. Avissar, Simon (Israeli, 1938-2020) is a Postwar & Contemporary painter born in Casablanca. As a tireless nomad, he exhibited for the first time in 1961, in Jaffa, where he lived and worked for some time. He then moved to Paris, settling into a studio in Montparnasse and began with an exhibition of his work at the Galerie Charpentier in 1964, and after exhibited at Abel Rambert, the Galerie de l’Elysée, and the Galerie Bénézit in the 14 years he lived there. He then moved to the United States, including Washington, New York, and Lose Angeles, while continuing to travel to South America, Australia, and South Africa, exhibiting in many places he visited. His work integrates the contributions of the avant-garde with cubist simplification, chromatic audacity, and abstract geometry.
