About

A delightful and rare early 19th century mahogany tea Caddy in the form of a miniature pedestal sideboard Having well figured and crossbanded hinged top over Concealed removable tea canisters raised on Original plinth base (This rare, elegant and very collectable tea caddy takes the form of a miniature pedestal sideboard with a hinged lid concealing two small wooden dowels which lock into place the concealed tea canisters. Tea was of course a most precious commodity in the q8th and 19th centuries and the wealthy of the time were always looking for novel and ingenious way to lock their expensive tea leaves away from any potential wandering hands. Well what better way than to place it in an article that at first glance appears not to even be something which is used for the storage of tea. As you would expect the item is excellent quality throughout and constructed beautifully. The overall condition is excellent. it comes supplied with fully working lock and key.)
