Qing Kangxi Period Chinese Vase Porcelain Fine Detail Garlic neck, Circa 1690
Located in Lincoln, Lincolnshire
A very beautiful high quality Chinese porcelain Bottle Vase. dating to the Qing Dynasty, Kangxi emperor ( 1662 to 1722). A well potted bottle Rouleau Vase with a rare garlic neck. Rouleau shaped vases were particularly popular during the Kangxi reign during the late 17th century. This is a superb Vase, finely decorated in an Imari theme with underglaze blue and red and overglaze decoration in red, some blue and much gold, all in great detail, with different patterns on each side. One side has a large central vase holding a floral display with a censor either side and precious things. The other side has many flowers and grasses issuing from a rocky base. The underside base has the double circle mark in underglaze blue which, though often seen out of period , is a Kangxi period mark. Chinese Imari is quite often seen on plates but rarely on Vases with most Imari decorated vases being Japanese. Overall a most beautiful, fine quality example of Chinese Imari. IMARI WARE Imari is the European name for Japanese porcelain wares made in the town of Arita and exported from the port of Imari, in Western Japan. The dynastic change and instability of China in the mid-17th century, (transitional period) created a gap in the porcelain market, which China increasingly filled, producing much Chinese Imari ware, made mainly for Export to the West. Imari ware is richly patterned in iron red and underglaze blue and is often lavishly gilded. Many of its designs were inspired by Japanese textiles. By the 18th century there was so much Chinese Imari ware available in the export market that Japanese Imari became prohibitive, spurring Western potteries to produce their own versions, such as Meissen in Germany or Spode...

Pair of Antique Blue and White Chinese Porcelain Vases Kangxi, Mid 17th Century
Located in Katonah, NY
WHY WE LOVE IT: The finest we've ever had. We are excited to offer this outstanding pair of Kangxi era blue and white vases. They are elegantly painted with lovely naturalistic scenes. The smooth surface of each oil-drop shaped bottle is adorned with Taihu rocks, plum blossoms, and bamboo stalks. Plum blossoms are symbols of beauty and integrity, evergreen bamboo stands for persistence and rectitude. Taihu rocks have decorated the private gardens of cultured Chinese families for hundreds of years. These rocks add a naturalistic and classical touch to the manicured gardens. Together, these auspicious plants and beloved rocks convey joy and strength to viewers. This design was especially popular during the early Kangxi period, as blue and white shards painted with rocks and floral subjects have been excavated from Kangxi era Jingdezhen* private kiln sites as well as early 18th century Chinese shipwrecks...
