About the Item

A stylish Doulton Lambeth Art Pottery vase decorated with fish by highly renowned artist Maud Bowden and dating from the early 20th century. The stoneware vase is of shallow squat round bulbous shape standing on a narrow round foot with a raised everted rim. The body of the vase is decorated in low relief with a central continuous band with fish swimming amidst pond weed applied in a tube lined style and hand painted in tones of blue, green and white. The upper and lower edges are applied with a simple raised stipple pattern in white against a mottled brown ground with the inner edge decorated in blue glazes. The vase has impressed makers marks to the base and is numbered 5617 and has incised marks for Maud Bowden along with partial assistant marks, probably for Jessie Lord. Provenance: From the Ann Turner Collection of Doulton Pottery acquired from the UK Art Market. In good condition with light wear associated with age and use.
