This 18th-century First Period Worcester Porcelain sugar box was hand painted featuring beautiful swags painted with green leaves, purple berries, and two-tone blue and yellow apples. Each swag is tied with a purple ribbon in an elegant bow. Green leaves and two-tone plums hang from each ribbon. The cover finial is crafted as a budding rose painted in gorgeous pinkish purple and yellow with two green leaves. The sugar box's border and cover are both adorned with a band of underglaze blue and a chain of golden ribbons and are gently lobed, which adds visual excitement as light plays over the curved surfaces. Made in England circa 1775, this sugar box is a gem! A Very Rare 18th Century Meissen Porcelain Covered Box in the form of a Lily Flower. Rare 18th Century Meissen Porcelain Covered Box in the form of a lily flower. Modeled as a fully blossomed white lily with curling petals forming both the lid and lower body, the surface is molded with naturalistic ribbing and undulating edges. The flower head opens at the center to reveal yellow stamens surrounding a pale green pistil, while the exterior is accented with green glazed stems and leaves extending along the sides and rear. The petals curve outward in overlapping layers, creating a highly irregular silhouette with deeply molded contours imitating the appearance of natural flower petals. A thin gilt line follows the seam where the lid joins the lower section, while the interior is glazed in white. The underside retains the underglaze blue crossed swords mark with two dots beneath. This charming pair of Meissen porcelain figures celebrates the essence of Revelry. First modeled by the renowned Johann Joachim Kändler on bases by Peter Reinicke, circa 1767, these joyous groups depict musicians making merry by playing the French horn, flute, guitar and hurdy-gurdy, and gardeners carrying flowers in baskets and aprons. Two almost identical groups are featured in Meissen: Collector’s Catalogue by Laurence Mitchell. Figures by Kändler were especially popular and served as table decorations at courtly banquets. He took the reigns of the Meissen factory in 1733 and over the following 40 years created more than 900 models, many of which were considered the most important and beautiful ever produced. Many of his designs were so timeless and classic that they continued to be used well into the 19th century. Kändler was highly regarded especially for his allegorical representations and he was certainly at his best when designing the Four Continents...
