About the Item

The Black & White lamp owes its name to the two types of light it emits. Diffused lighting is obtained by means of a white opaline glass dome containing a trio of light bulbs; the lighting directed towards horizontal surfaces is instead obtained by means of a corrugated cup in mirror-polished natural aluminium, inserted in the lower part of the diffuser, which houses a silver-capped light bulb, in order to improve reflection. The switches can be separated: the black effect is obtained by turning on only the central light bulb, the white effect with those inside the dome. Achille Castiglioni (1918 - 2002) and Pier Giacomo (1913 - 1968) were born in Milan where they began their professional activity giving life to a design activity entirely characterized by research on "new" forms, techniques and materials, tending to the realization of an "integral" design process. Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni are among the founders of the Association for Industrial Design. Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni began their collaboration with Zanotta in 1964. FLOS S.p.A. (from the Latin flower) is an Italian company founded in Merano (Italy) in 1962 and specialized in lighting systems.

Glass Pendant Lamp “Kappa” Model by Sergio Mazza for Artemide 60s
By Artemide, Sergio Mazza
Located in Padova, IT
Sergio Mazza is an Italian designer born in 1931 in Milan. In 1955 he began his free profession and since 1961 he has been working alongside G. Gramigna in the Smc studio, working in the furniture and industrial design fields. Among the various acknowledgments and prizes received, we recall the mention at the Compasso d'Oro 1960 for the Delta lamp by Artemide and the silver medal for the Italian apartment at the X Triennale in Milan. From 1967 he also began to design for Olivari, signing the Macco handles, up to the Giuliana model, with Gramigna, in 1987. In the publishing field, again with Gramigna, he directed the "Ottagono" magazine from its foundation until 1988. Artemide is a company specialized in the production of lighting accessories (lamps, chandeliers, light points), founded by Ernesto Gismondi and Sergio Mazza in 1959. The brand has been characterized since the beginning by a great attention to the design that has allowed over the years to win numerous international awards for its products. Among the most prestigious names in Italian design, Artemide is also one of the world's leading companies in high-end residential and professional lighting. Already in 1967 he received his first prize the prestigious Compasso d'Oro for the Eclisse lamp, designed by Vico Magistretti. This award is followed by many others, nationally and internationally, making Artemide one of the symbolic companies in the design lamp sector. In 1996 Artemide made its own a new manifesto, in which it still identifies itself today: with the motto "The Human Light...
