Park Sherman 1930 Art Deco Chromed Steel Roller Box With Red And Black Bakelite
Located in Miami, FL
Decorative roller desk box designed by Park Sherman. Very decorative desk box, created during the art deco period in America by the Park Sherman Company, back in the 1930. This roller-lid box is very innovative in design and with Avant Garde look. It was crafted in chromed steel with red lacquer and elements in red and black Bakelite. It is fitted with a roller lid, which is in perfect working condition. The Park Sherman Company Park Sherman was an important Springfield company for several decades ending with the sale of the company to a New Jersey firm in 1960. They mass-produced smoking accessories, particularly lighters, as well as a multitude of office, novelty, and other items. The Park Sherman Company operated in Springfield, Illinois until 1960 when it was sold to a New Jersey company. A man named Jacob S. Sherman was the founder of the Park Sherman Company. The company sold miner's supplies (miner's cap lamps, match cases, etc.) and later specialized in things like coin banks and smoking accessories such lighters and cigarette cases. The company's products were sold throughout the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s. 'Everdry' was a brand name that Park Sherman used on some of its products. The word "Everdry" was used, for example, on match cases to indicate that the case would prevent the matches from getting wet. Presumably, your "Everdry" cigarette case kept the contents from getting wet. Materials: Chromed steel and red and black Bakelite. Weight: 231.7 Grams, (0.51 Pounds). Measurements: 114.3 mm by 101.6 mm by 63.5 mm (3.50 x 4.0 x 2.50 Inches). Literature: Rodney and Diane Capstick-Dale, The art deco Collectibles...

The Charles London 1947 Pocket Petrol Lighter Guilloche Plated Sterling Silver
Located in Miami, FL
The Charles petrol lighter designed by Meyer Maximilian Levene An exceptional and rare silver-plated 'The Charles' petrol pocket lighter stamped 'The Charles Lighter', made in London England, back in the 1947. It was rafted with slim rectangular form, decorated with engine-turned casing, double entry hinged lids with innovative internal mechanical features, including a revolving flint tube to provide even wear to the flint, and a rear barrel containing spare flint chambers so that semi-automatic loading of the spare flint can be undertaken. The Charles Lighter has an extremely complicated mechanism. The flint rotates while grinded by the friction wheel. Also interesting is the revolving magazine for spare flints. A fine example of complete over-engineering. This was made only for a very short period and was patented by Meyer Maximilian Levene in 1949. Weight: 70.50 Grams, (45.19 Dwt). Measurements: 48 mm by 43 mm by 12 mm (1.89 x 1.69 x 0.77 Inches). However, by the late 1920’s, the company took on a different path and began to manufacture lighters with a “lift arm system”. This system is very similar to the one used by the Alfred Dunhill Company – minus the fact that the flint wheel was located vertically, rather than horizontally. Many lighters were manufactured by the Evans Company with this “lift arm system” with a variety of attractive styles, including enameled cases. In addition, the Evans Company produced complementary cigarette cases and perfume sprays...

Asprey The company was established in England in Mitcham, Surrey, in 1781. Founded as a silk printing business by William Asprey, it soon became a luxury emporium. In 1841, William Asprey's elder son Charles went into partnership with a stationer located on London's Bond Street. In 1847, the family broke with this partner and moved into 167 New Bond Street, the premises Asprey occupies today. From its central London location, Asprey advertised 'articles of exclusive design and high quality, whether for personal adornment or personal accompaniment and to endow with richness and beauty the table and homes of people of refinement and discernment.' An early specialty was dressing cases. Asprey crafted traditional cases and designs, mostly in leather, suitable for the new style of travel ushered in by railways. As the business grew, the company acquired manufacturing facilities and hired silversmith, goldsmith, jewelers and watchmakers. In the 1920's, commissions poured in from around the world, from American millionaire J. P. Morgan to potentates such as the Maharaja of Patiala, who commissioned a huge teak travelling trunk for each of his wives, in which each trunk was fitted with solid silver washing and bathing utensils with waterspouts of ornate tiger head and lined with blue velvet. Antique, New and Vintage Tobacco Accessories

Antique, new and vintage tobacco accessories are not typically works of art, but, even if you’ve kicked the habit, an ornate mid-century modern ashtray, bronze cigar cutter or Art Deco cigarette case — collector’s items, all — will prove to be a unique accent piece for your bar cart, coffee table or mantel.

Cigar connoisseurs know the value of a good cigar box or humidor. Humidors safely store cigars at the right temperature so they don’t retain moisture and deteriorate in quality. Depending on the size and type of cigar, a cigar cutter is also an important accessory for the consummate cigar smoker. There are guillotine cutters, cigar scissors, V-cutters and punch cutters. These tools are useful, but, as part of a 19th-century upgrade for your contemporary desk, antique tobacco accessories are also a fun way to integrate personal expression into your workday. A sleek vintage cigarette case or lighter can introduce some pizzazz to the shelves of your home library or any other surface where you display your collectibles.

While ashtrays might not immediately strike you as interesting and provocative objects that deserve to be part of your decor, these accessories have taken on all manner of forms and styles over the years. Old glass ashtrays, which are quite popular and easily found in free-form, organic shapes, can be a purely decorative final touch when styling a coffee table. Visionary designers such as Isamu Noguchi — one of the most prolific and protean creative forces of the 20th century — popularized the idea of tobacco accessories as art with projects such as his decorative ashtrays.

Discover an extensive collection of antique, new and vintage tobacco accessories for your home today on 1stDibs.
