About the Item

Exceptionally rare set of early Alvar Aalto armchairs for O.Y Wilhelm Schauman A.B Jyväskylä, Finland, 1939. Custom ordered for NY World's Fair Restaurant. Upholstered in quality Lauritzon's fabric. While the design is not typical Aalto, it is reminiscent of the ideas of Finnish 1930s design and early Alalto. It is quality work of the manufacturer O.Y Wilhelm Schauman which furnished several public buildings and homes during that era. This set is truly a rare find and a dream for the collector who is still missing this particular model. Literature: 'Aalto Design Collection' p. 240.
