About the Item

Beautiful and iconic 'Costela' chairs designed by Carlo Hauner and Martin Eisler and produced by Forma, Italy 1960. This is the Brazilian version of the Costela chairs, produced by Forma Moveis. These so-called Costela chairs have a solid mahogany ribbed frame supported by a black painted tubular metal frame, all in original condition. However, the chairs are in fantastic original condition, the woodwork has been retouched and the seats have recently been upholstered in a beautiful white flat bouclé. The Costela chair was an important design for the Brazilian mid-century modern movement in the 1950s. It became so popular that even outside Brazil there was a lot of demand for it. So they decided to also produce this chair in Europe, which was cheaper than shipping chairs to Europe.
