About the Item

A fine American Mid-Century Modern slatted Platform Bench. Designed by George Nelson for Herman Miller. In natural and black-lacquered birch with three trapezoidal legs. Model no. 4993. This model was included in George Nelson first group of designs for Herman Miller. It was conceived to fulfill multiple functions - as a bench, a low table, or base for shallow case pieces. With a refinished top (seating area) and an old black finish to the legs. Bearing an old Herman Miller label to the base. Simply a wonderful Platform bench! Date: Mid-20th Century Overall Condition: It is in overall good, as-pictured, used estate condition. Condition Details: The bench top has been lightly sanded and refinished. There are few nicks and spots of loss to the edges here & there. There is a section of dark stain to 5 or 6 slats on one end. The black finish to the legs has some crazing, edge wear, and rubbing appropriate from light use. Otherwise, there are some spots of white house paint scattered here and there, some fine & light surface scratches and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age.
