About the Item

A charming and iconic pair of 'Carimate' lounge chairs designed by Vico Magistretti and produced by Cassina in Italy, circa 1963. Signed with Cassina stamp to chair frames. *Priced individually, we have two chairs available at the time of this listing. Crafted from beechwood with warm golden tones, these sculptural chairs feature the distinctive broad-armed frame that defines Magistretti’s Carimate series. One chair retains its original rush seat in beautiful condition, while the other has a textured woven fabric in a neutral palette—offering a subtle play in contrast and adding a touch of uniqueness and comfort while remaining cohesive as a pair. The backrests are composed of intricately woven rush in Magistretti’s characteristic triangular pattern, creating both support and visual interest. Rounded legs and bold structural lines give these chairs a confident stance, while the organic materials keep them grounded in a natural, timeless aesthetic. Both chairs bear the Cassina branded embossing on the underside, confirming authenticity. These rare lounge chairs are perfect for a Mid-Century Modern, Italian Modern, or Rustic Modern interior, but can just as easily lend character to a Contemporary, Postmodern, or Wabi-Sabi styled space. Their relaxed scale and approachable materials make them a versatile fit for residential or commercial settings. Consider placing them in a living room, den, sunroom, reading nook, or as fireside chairs. They also work beautifully in hospitality or retail environments like boutique hotel lounges, design studios, or artful concept stores. Great as lounge chairs, occasional chairs, fireside chairs, entryway chairs, or even as accent pieces in a Modern Mediterranean, Scandinavian Modern, or Boho Eclectic interior. Their design bridges simplicity and sophistication—just as relevant today as when they were first introduced. Mario Bellini for Cassina 'Cab 414' Leather Lounge Chair, Signed, circa 1980s
By Cassina, Mario Bellini
Located in Los Angeles, CA
A beautiful black leather Mario Bellini Cab lounge chair, Model #414, signed Cassina, designed in the 1970s. These fine examples of the cab line by Mario Bellini for Cassina are classic staples for luxury interior designers and collectors alike, these lounge variations of the design are larger and deeper than the similar dining armchair, and have the addition of the seat cushion. Signed underneath with Cassina embossing to the leather. Mario Bellini described the 1970s bestselling design for the Cab collection as “This was a new kind of chair, constructed totally out of leather, much cloned since then.” and is now a signature piece in Cassina’s Contemporanei collection. Cab was the first-ever chair to feature a free-standing leather structure, inspired by how our skin fits over our skeleton. The upholstery consists of sixteen pieces of saddle leather. They then undergo fourteen discrete procedures, again by hand. The pieces are sewn together only when their outer edges have been trimmed to ensure a perfect fit. Once assembled, the cover is attached to the chair’s steel skeleton and held in place by means of a zipper fastening as in a bespoke tailored...

Pair of Club Chairs by Claudio Salocchi for Sormani Italy, c 1970, Signed
By Claudio Salocchi, Sormani
Located in Los Angeles, CA
This newly reupholstered pair of club chairs by Claudio Salocchi for Sormani, circa 1970s, features graceful chrome frames with nubby white bouclé fabric. Signed with 1960s/ 1970s Sormani label as shown in photo gallery. *Note, we have the matching sofa available in another listing. The graceful frames share a design quality with Cassina's LC2 / LC3 design by Le Corbusier, as they are 'buckets of cushions' in similar fashion and comfort. However these Sormani lounge chairs feature some unique subtle details, such as the slight "twist" in the rear legs (see photos). Signed with a Sormani label, this particular rare design is attributed to Claudio Salocchi. While there were several other famous designers who created works for Sormani in this time period, the style best matches Salocchi's work. For collectors looking for something unique and rare within a collection of 1960s/ 1970s Italian designs, this pair of easy chairs are an amazing opportunity. These Cassina LC2 / LC3 style chairs...
