Eames Zenith RAR Rocking Chair with Rope Edge

About the Item

This is a highly collectible early edition rocking armchair on rod base (RAR) designed by Ray and Charles Eames and made by Zenith Plastics. The fiber-rich lemon yellow fiberglass shell is in excellent condition with barely a trace of wear. The iconic rope edge is clearly visible throughout. The shock mounts are in excellent shape, and the rocker base is sturdy. It has had two tidy weld repairs done in the past. The birch rockers are originals and show some drying and cracking on the ends, as is to be expected from their age. This is an iconic, immediately recognizable chair and a piece of design history. Ray and Charles Eames are widely appreciated as two of the most talented furniture designers of the 20th century, and this rocking chair is indicative of their skills as a dynamic husband-and-wife duo.
